Thread: Ranger question for SL Profession

I have reached Master Ranger and Master CH (within the next few days). I am out of points and looking to try my hand at some of the more role-playing aspect of my profession.

I have run with some SL's in my days and many are very good at it. I like the order they try to keep in a group (even though it may not always work).

I was thinking of becomming a guide for groups with Squad Leaders. I would want a point of contact, and to me, a Squad Leader should be it.

My idea:

Over the last few weeks (since patch) I have received many requests to help track Kimo's and Krayt dragons for groups. I have declined till now since they were all spur of the moment while I was with a group on Dathomir or a similar planet.

If I received an email requesting guide to track, I would consider doing it if I had time to get in and meet the group on time.

Based on your leadership experiences, what would that type of skill be worth to you?

Since Krayts and Kimos are not missions, there is no payout plus travel and expenses would need to be factored in.

Sound like something you would be interested in?

I am in the Eclipse Galaxy, based out of Kor'Vella on Corellia.

Thanks for your time.

I think this would be a highly valuable service. As a squad leader I get a good number of tells each day asking if there's any kryat hunting to be done. Kryat hunts can be a lot of fun, but they can take forever to find. I had Novice Ranger after the patch (but had to give it up this weekend ) so I had the basic /areatrack and I loved it

For those that don't know /areatrack is a ranger skill that esentially brings up a list of creatures in the nearbyarea, higher level rangers can also track people and their direction. It's very cool, and very useful for keeping groups on target.

I've been to the graveyard for hours without seeing a dragon. If you can guarantee action quickly I think that's a service a fair number of players would go for. Unfortunately, there's a lot of players that won't cough up any credits for this service and would rather run around in the graveyards for hours on end without seeing a thing. You'll hafta find the right type of players for this service, and I think you've hit the right market with squad leaders because #1 I think most of the peeps here can see the value in a thing like this, and #2 SLs can probably have better success coercing groupmates to actually cough up the dough for the hunt.

How much to charge? Hmmm, I dunno, how much is your time worth. If you can deliver on dragons I'd say 1-2k per groupmate up front while forming the group, and another 1-2k upon finding them. I dunno those are just swags, your millage may very, and if you have a couple wealthy smiths that just want to go sightseeing, well charge whatever you can .

I think onevery profitableangle would be if you promise not to loot any of the valuable dragon scales/tissues so the rest of the group can profit, you can ask for a much larger up front price, or if you trust the peeps ask for a cut of their profits. Plus you can throw in some great tanks with master CH. You could have a very profitable venture just hanging out near the graveyard on slow days and taking groups to the action.

Good luck,

I would gladly join a squad leader's hunting group in Scylla if approached, just to finally be on a group where coordination, cooperation and strong leadership exists. Too many have been the pains of randomly formed hunt groups.

I would pay for it, but it's sorta like doctors that way....

I tend to get several rangers signing up for the group when I'm forming, and some have area track. Free.

I have a good bit of money from Nightsister and Baz missions with my guild (not as much as an artisan, though) so this would be more for the fun of role-play.

I thought about getting really scraggly clothes, add some age to my character. My and my loyal pet Thor (gurreck) travelling alone in the wilderness helping groups reach fame and glory. That kind of thing.

In terms of guaranteed success, I guess there really never is one... I can find more than 50 animals (including babies for any SL/CH) within 500m of my location. If nothing is around, we pick a direction (based on skill/experience/dumb luck) and do another search.

It can take a little time, but has been 99% accurate for me unless another group kills something I am tracking. Then it dissapears. Then we start over.

In terms of payment, I could see me taking the group out, finding a canyon krayt (maybe by acting as a point person 64-128m out from the group - relaying info to SL), letting the group take him down without my intervention and all I would ask for is the share of the harvest.

Tips would always be welcome though.

I think it could be fun (for me) and save your team a lot of searching.

I would imagine (if it were me as a SL) that running for hours hoping to find one just has to chafe a SL raw.

Thanks for talk it over with ya.
