Thread: New Squad Leader Ability Sugguestion

I just Read a post about how squad leaders are basicaly useless. while i dont entirely agree with this statment i do belive they made some valid points. while squad leaders do have several ablilites that power up large groups their abilities are limited by the poeple in the group, a group of 20 newbies is nothing compared to a group of 3 or 4 expert players.


one idea i came up with is to give squad leaders a "Call Reenforcments" comand. this ability would depend on the players faction rank. it would cause same faction NPCs to spawn in that area temporaily, or has same faction NPCs with in acertin radius tohead to teh groups location.it might also send asystem message (similar to /sysgroup comand) to all same faction players that are not in the group within a certin radius and would include the group coordinates so they can locate them

Yes, but I'd still like to be able to get my group to their destination faster then a group without one. The terrain navigation is nice and all, but I have the need for speed! Skalds rocked in DAoC, you always wanted one in your group for the speed increase.

ah so you want them to have an ability to to exced normal speeds, rather then balance out the terrain navigation... yes that is a very good idea, but if they are going to do that, then they should probably allow SL to increase their personal radar range so they can more easily avoid hostiles, or the radar jammer so they can avoid detection

Give SL some kind of group running speed ability. Like Skalds in Daoc

The running speed increase was in the DEVs proposal, or it looks that way on paper. I hope they do it!

SL already have the ability to increase a groups tarran navigation and their Burst run effiancy, what they need are more heavy hitting group power ups or attacking abilities or other support ability like the radar jamming that was suggested in an other thread

are you taking about the bonus to terrain nav? or are you talking about general running speed? from what i hear terrain nav is working, but i do think it would be a good idea for SLs to have the abily to boost group general running speed


this would make SL much more useful to groups as groups with a SL would be able to complet missions faster

Don't want to overdo it, though. I think bonuses ranging from 10%-50% up the mobility branch would be suitable. That added speed would still be enough to make a serious difference.

probaly what i would like to see is if only the SL experianced teh increase in radar range so they can spot mobs form fathers away, but still not completly eliminating the need for area track.


if everyone experiances the radar boost then it takes away form the Leadership aspect of the SL profession

I liked the original idea of having NPC temporarily spawn to back up your squad. That way you could go to bigger planets with smaller groups and get back-up on the spot if needed. While bonuses are nice, abilities are nicer to see, especially if they're practical

I dont like that, that's a mislocation of Military Resources if used hunt wise... Its just not right, I like buffs, a few more focus fire abilities and lots more buffs...
