Squad Leader Archive
Thread: Foraging has its uses...
I know this thread seems a bit out of place, but I figured that I would put in my two bits on the usefulness of acquiring foragingas a Squad Leader. First some personal insight:
The Beginning
I play as a Zabrak. As such I chose to intentionally lower my mind stats during Stat Mitigation so that I could beef up my Health and Action bars. I figured that due to the Zabrak's innate abilities to regenerate their Mind bar quickly, it would be to my benefit to keep this bar low. SoI kept my Mind bar at or around 500. This was, ironically, before I discovered unpleasant wickedness at the handsof a Rifleman in PvP!
Where the wild things are
My theory was sound. I was a force to be reckoned with... but that low mind bar was seemingly my only soft spot... and then... I started experimenting. I don't know if it was the 'shrooms.. or what. But I discovered that foraged Furr' Cle Onions doubled my Mind Bar (it grants 500 to mind)!!After sampling one of these tasty treatsI then possessed all HAM bars in excess of 1k each.
Additional applications
Soon after, my Bio-Engineer buddy gave me an early Christmas gift in the form of a tiny hungry baby Murra. I promptly named him Austin. He was always hungry though. And on my (so far underdeveloped) server, food from the bazaars for Austin was becoming a bit expensive for my tastes. I didn't want to hassle with dragginghot prepared foodaround in my bags. ~Sigh~ Austin was beginning to become more trouble than he was worth. One day, I set up a camp out on Corellias fruited plain. I was determined to set Austin free, and almost did if my critter hadn't started sniffing at my E'tost. "Aha! Cheap pet food," I cried.Lets just say, that Austin isn't much of a baby anymore.

Fishing pole + Foraged Bait + Corellian Ale = Sunday Fishing Trip (yet another way to increase wilderness xp)

Im using foraging exactly the same way, but I find that Im always too full to consume. So quite often the effects will wear off long in advance of me being able to eat another onion. but the free pet food is great. If you want to fill your feed bag, make a looping macro that forages every 60 seconds, then just go to sleep. Then you can cull out the crap (or feed it to your pet) and you have a nice stack of everything that give you the stats you want.
What I want to know is: Does prepared food that enhances mind last longer, and be not so filling that you can keep the stats 'permanantly' up without being full all the time?
And I absoloutly LOVE fishing in this game. Best fishing in a MMO to date by far. But is there any demand for all the fish I catch?
My experience with the onions leads me to believe that their use is only meant for short battles. They only appear to last four or five minutes at a time? (I can't verify this, as I'm at work atm) However, what I do know, is that you can eat various combinations of foods to give you the maximum amount of HAM possible before you attack your target.
What I'm thinking is that Furr Cle Onions are a boon for mind raising for the amount it fills your stomach. Add that with some special chef treat (I'm still learning about what is out there to eat), and eventually you may be able to extend your HAM by3 or 4k, depending on what you eat, and how you eat it. (Let's not forget the additional bonuses of Drugs, Alcohol, and Rock N' Roll!)
As far as foraging goes... I think it mainly hasfour "perks." Cheap pet food, Furr Cle Onions (I'm sorry, I just love the 500 mind), easy access to food in remote areas, and fishing bait.
