Thread: A ranger-revamp question of curiousity for us

Has anyone else besides me started planning possible tactical uses for rangers in group? Never hurts to be prepared lol


Congrats to the Rangers for their well-deserved and long overdue attention

Reading the concepts, there definitely would be some nice uses for Rangers... mostly i would be interested in the traps at the moment, as they look well suitable to both prepare an assault ona base and to cover your precious rear end when the usual PvP-Jedi-Crowd arrives and tries to chase us out of the base again.


Though, this are just first ideas... how to actually work with Rangers will only be known after seeing how they are actually implemented and how they work out.

I want to make a MSL/Mranger character I think it would be alot of fun

I want to make a MSL/Mranger character I think it would be alot of fun




Consider: while you will have modifiers like general ranged accuracy and general ranged speed, you will have nothing better than ranged shot and overcharge shot. Thus your complete damage capacity will come from the rangers traps and stuff... they now sound like being very mighty, but sneaky weapons in any online game quite soon get reduced to acceptable levels... instant-killed by an invisible trap with no chance against it is not something what many people consider fun. Loosing something like20% of health and then having the chance to duke it out with the stealth guy is more what people like...


So, while stealth and trapps will be an advantage, i dare to assume that they alone won't be a viable combat build for longer than the first weeks. Some well thought dabbling will be necessary to find a way to make SL and Ranger within one character to work well enough.So, it willtake a lot of patience and testing to figure something out,but if you manage to fine-tune it, i think it will be massive fun to play...

It would bassicly be pure support and recon but would be a load of fun when you see your traps go off while the hostiles charge your team

I doubt it would be very effective to mix the two.

1st, relying on the marksman ranged skills would be painful mainly for you

2nd, rangerground traps are set _before_ combat.

3rd, I very much doubt the ranger/sl would have much defense to speak of, and being squad leader puts you loud and clear ahead of your troops with the ever noticable: "/shout some sl skill".


However, yeah, working alongside rangers could be hugely effective since with an improved /conceal you can arrange actual ambushes, if I'm not mistaken.

Secondary having a ranger in your platoon would lessen the chance of falling into a horrible ambush.

Hmm perhaps movement speed buffs/retreat could be used to quickly place mines ahead of an enemy group?

All my ideas so far have been PvE/Critter hunting plans so far, I must admit. Have to wait to see how our changes (both SL and Ranger) play out live before I can get a better idea of PvP tactics on my end. Plus, it wouldn't hurt to get a little PvP experience under my belt in the first place(making sure I take down the Master SL title to prevent untimely deaths on my part). lol


At present, the extent of my PvP experience is getting ganked by 5 imp jedi pre-cu after getting declared overt. And this was when I was just a pistoleer/bio-engineer rofl

I personally currently mostly see use for the traps:


Step 1: Drop a layer of traps in front of the PvP base.

Step 2: Send a dragger (yea, Jedi are cheaper in the dozen and come with avoid incap, so use one of those) in there to agro the NPCs and then come outside again.

Step 3: Watch the traps go off, taking out a good deal of the base defenders.

Step 4: Get the team inside.

Step 5: Drop a new layer of traps in front of the PvP base.

Step 6: Do some happy slicing while the enemy players who come to save the base get torn apart by the traps.

Step 7: Listen to the alarm, kick the hostile corpses on the way out, take position at the entrance of the base or in front of it.

Step 8: No matter where you stand, get a new layer of traps in front of the base.

Step 9: Hold out till the base blows, enjoy the fireworks.

Step 10: Turn up at the Commando/Smuggler/Ranger/Squad Leader BBQ. Be sure to get enough drinks and don't take away _all_ the girls.

I can't wait for this re-vamp to come out. It will be a really nice addition to have in the group especially if you Roleplay. Also a MSL and MRanger can work just get 0400 Carbs for improved leg shot and you are all set, or maybe even 4000 rifle for conceal shot and lead a group of people that allhave rifle conceal shot. Lay a bunch of traps down, take position with your group and go invisible, once the traps go off everyone in the group fires off conceal shots. Would be pretty sweet if you think about it.
