to make SL xp straight weapons xp. so instead of needing pistols xp, if yer say a carbineer you could jsut use yer fav carbine to get SL. unless someone knows of a pistol thats really good that doesnt require master pistoleer.

and well im ranting, if im a master carbineer i should be master of ALL carbines even the Proton Carbine only master BH's can use.

RAWR!

/end rant

This topic has been covered many times. No need for a petition.

The Tchotchee is a nice little Kashyyk loot pistol too. Only requires some of the strategy line I believe.

However, at Master Carbineer, you don't get pistol speed/accuracy/defense. So you end up being faster with a carbine, but slower with a pistol (the Squad Leader's main weapon)

If all professions gave only General Ranged Speed/Accuracy mods, then it would be fair. The dificulty with SL requiring "Weapons XP" is that this category doesn't actually exist. It would have to be either Pistols, carbines, and rifle xp.

If we end up complaining too much about this, we'll end up getting our xp requirements changed to all Combat XP, and we wouldn't wantthat, now would we? Perhaps like BH, using Pistol XP for one tree, Carbine XP for another, and Rifle XP for a third, keeping the current Combat XP requirement for the fourth tree. This would make for a more all-round Squad Leader (after all, a leader should know the skills of those he's leading)

Actually i'm just grinding up another SL... i started using a carbine till i managed to acquire novice SL, so the character at the moment is Carbineer 1110 and SL 1311.

Based on this i dare to say, even without having pistol specific modifiers, i can fight pretty well with a pistol (hit rate is good, cripple shot and charge shot work relyable, damage is fine enough for a low level weapon) and see no reason to complain about the combat performance of my char.

I can very well do missions a few levels higher than my CL by myself but since i mostly fight in group (a habbit which any good SL should have) my personal damage output is not even that important.

If you are really low level, people don't expect you to do massive damage... and as soon as you can drop volley fire in, you give them way more than they ever expected to get from somebody of your level, so there sure are no complains.

Different XP for different trees sounds feasible, but all in all, at least in my eyes, the XP requirement is of no more than mediocre importance and as soonyou have a bit of support from others it is no issue any more at all. And as a last sidenote, the passage that "you have to learn about all professions you are leading", you learn little by using the weapon, you need to use the abilities to do that. (I fight with a pistol now, but my fighting style is the one of a carbineer.) So, as long as SL doesn't require you to first master Rifleman, Carbineer and Pistoleer and only when you have the master badges you can learn SL, the XP requirements don't teach you anything about the different combat professions.

you don't need master pistoleer. done all of SL withh out it, I only had 2 boxes of Pistols in Marksmen, and I wasrunning with the pistols at level 20ish ( the ones that don't req pistoleer and only require skill level). I'm a carbines man myself. though realy liking the root of pistols.

I find what works with melee mobs is attack with carbines, criple them, then go in withh a high end pistol. that way you get the mix of med to close range that both offer so well.

No need to use a carbine for that, even. 35 meters are fine enough to start the fight with cripple and keep kiting, drop in charge shot when the target manages to close in. I admit that i would not want todo thison a krayt, but with any "normal" melee mob it works all smooth.

Regarding pistols you can use, here's a handy link to one of the WS forum stickies - lists all the weapons that you can use for each character level and profession. There are plenty of weapons out there that don't even require novice marksman, let alone pistoleer, to be effective. In my time as SL, I think I've ever had Pistoleer... currently I only have the marksman requirements.
