Thread: Just a few questions over the ins and outs of Squad Leading

I'm a pretty active pvper and i'm thinking about picking up an alt for buffing purposes, however the idea of my own squad leader is something that i've thought about many times. Anyway, before i dedicate the time and skill points to the profession i have a few questions that maybe you could answer for me.
1) Is there any delay on the retreat command? Meaning, if the SL is buffed to the point that HAM is no longer an issue, could i in theory spam it to give the group infinite burst run?
2) Do the additional melee and ranged defenses allow you to exceed the current +125 caps if the player is already at them with his/her template? Example: I have a stacker template and have both ranged and melee def capped, will grouping with a SL give me 150 to each?
3) Probably most importantly, does the SL have to be factionally alligned in order to use the commands on overts, and if so will using them result in giving the SL a TEF? Since this character will most likely be non-combat, and most likely half buffer, a tef would spell certain doom in a pvp fight. I know that the SL has to be on the same planet, and that i could hide them in another town, but that's an inconvience, and it could lower the ability to give the right commands at the right time.
Any information and/or answers to the above would be most appreciated.

Thank you very much. I'll have to give this some thought, but SL is definitely looking like something i might want to pick up on the side.

That wouldn't make much of an alt if you're planning on turning on a macro and leaving it alone; it has to come with you into combat to use the specials, so it'd be dead in short order. Aside from that, you have to shout something every time you use most of the commands (like retreat), and you'd be reported if you started spamming commands like that continuously in a macro for infinite burst run.

retreat devestates your ham, you cant spam it even with buffs, it will do at least 2000-3000 damage, depending on group size and your ham,
you get TEFd for doing specials
and yes the bonuses stack --- its a "group melee + ranged bonus"
if your doing SL remember, the group is relying on you to keep them alive, not a good afk profession

There are a bunch of groups and guilds that have an afk Sl on the Bloodfin. They typicly just spam /steadyaim andusually stand off to the side in battles.
As far as I can recall, of the commands I use, JUST /rally gives you a TEF
so when guilds have a covert S grouped with them they can go anywhere with the group, and are often set to /follow on the players main charcter, and they sometimes have doc or medic macros running as well, but that I dont see as much.
/retreat is impossible to spam even if you are al buffed, have double Brandy, double ahrissa. your mind will godown and eventually bottom out. You will however be able to last a little while and especially if you pop a Muon you can keep a group burst running for at least most of a battle. but you have to be playing your character, and you well are really wasting all that time as you are more effective running a simple macro and using rifleman or whatever and strafing fools.
I play Rifleman/SL and run a simple aim macro or whatever while I run around poping my Jawa all over the place, and staying close to one of my docs so I can have DOTs healed. But then again I am reckless.
I do pop the retreat command when one of my guys is chasing down an escaping rebel, and I have the 1000 mind to donate to the cause hehe

SL and pvper this is how it works
You can stand in a room somewhere safe and give retreats or have a TKA-M medidate and you can balance the wounds and heal people.
oh and if you can see the people in your group you can do form up and undizzy them. BUt must people would not understand and get mad at you for spamming commands.
