Yes this profession can demand real leadership ability in the person behind the digital 'toon but, you know, I find that less challenging/demanding than finding players who are good followers. THAT is the real trick. There is no leader unless there are willing followers.
Show me a player willing to follow and I'll show you a snowman willing to lay asphalt all day in hell.

I feel ya. My first large party as a SL was a 20-member solo hunt group on Yavin4. Needlees to say, I WON'T be doing that again. Since that fiasco, I've pretty much stuck to working with my guild. The xp isn't always that great, but since I'm doing this profession because I like it, it's really not as important to me. The big advantage is that I know them, they know the way I want things done, and if there's a disagreement, we work it out right there on the spot (well, right after the fighting's over), with no hard feelings on either side afterward. I'm sure I'll be wandering further afield as I get better at this profession, but for now, I'm sticking with my guild.

Guild groups or Friends groups seem to work much better than random ones, though I have run into a few random people that turned out to be great followers.
The problem is that everyone is looking out for themselves first of all, they don't want someone else telling them what to do because it may contradict what they think is best.
It will allways be a problem with our profession. You just have to hope you find some good team mates.

yes i know this to...
i have lead countless groupsand had endless adventures, andi mustsay agroup you haveone day can be great and the group you have the other day can be totaly the worse...
The most inportant thing wich depens on how good your group will be is that pepole must learn to listen , a group who listens to you willhave afar more effect, then a group that does not.
alsow there could be 1 or 2 persons in the group that could mess up your whole group, or thay just want to play leader them selfs.
guild group are way more easy then random groups... becose thay respect you, and know who you are
But like in every group listening is the key word

The best followers are noobs for some obivious reasons. One is that they are new and curious to all of the aspects to the game.I think they get into the whole "squad" mentallity and think I can punish them or something.I willalways let a noob into my squad just to help them out with what little defensive bonuseswe can offer.
One time I used "FORM UP" and the guy started laughing because I called him a slimeball. He thought I was talking directly to him.

I'd have to say, I'm with Geuaxx here, too. Next to a squad of guildmates, the next best thing, control-wise anyway, is a squad of newbs. They're not as set in their ways and are open to orders. Also open to damage, too, but you can't have everything....

I think the hardest group to lead is a group of random people you've never met before.
Especially if it's for an area hunt and not mission/resource hunting.
If you go to Tusken and just invite all the people around in your group (for levelling purposes, etc) there's bound to be people who won't respect group rules. Either they'll take all the kills because they're more powerful than everyone else, or they find a way to stealall the loot from everyone else.
As hard as it is, the ability to sort all this out and to get a group of 20 strangers working peacefully together is what seperates Squad Leaders from everyone else.

Okay, I'm not Squad Leader yet but I'm working my way towards it (give me a day or two and I'll be there). However in practice for getting there I do lead a lot groups. Usually 2 big parties per day, one in the morning and one in the evening. Because I am really a newbie myself, and the fact that when I started I obviously had no friends, I had to stand outside Mos Eisley Cantina and shout for people to join my group.
Now most of the time I run around with a group of about 8-10 people. We get missions and we head off to hunt them down. But we don't follow the usual way most groups do things. We just go out and have fun (isn't that what this games about?). I make sure everyone has a fun time, that everyone enjoys themselves, and that everyone feels like they are contributing something to the group.
Anyway, I don't find that the long term players that I've come across have had any particular problems with the way I run the group. In fact I've had comments such as "Its nice to have some good old fashion SWG hunting, like it used to be". I mean I don't know what that was like... but I'm sure if people are enjoying themselves then I'm doing my job well. As long as I'm straight up about how things work, then old and new players alike seem to like grouping with me.
The fact is that having played this game for only 2 weeks, and not even made Squad Leader yet, people are already asking me to lead their group (without me having any of the Squad Leader specials.... yet). I'm not trying to sound big headed or anything, just saying that I think that you're wrong about some of the older players who occasionally want to just have a bit of fun... and if they don't... well they don't need to come hunting with me.

With me and my guild we have our own means of communications. If I hear someone shout there dizzy over my speakers its instant formup. Its a very nice system in PvP considering I dont spam specials. Also Its nice when they all go overt and say why the heck arent you overt I dont have to explain I can just show them by letting them chase down Jedis without my mind being blown out of its helmet. While there overt they can chase when I use retreat while covert so in effect I dont have to wear armor and drain myself (Kind of cany how well I can get off topic ehh?)
I cant beleive Im actually going to post this cause I know that frecking retreat will be nerfed soon now that I sing the praises of it in my group)

LOL..
I couldn't agree more with this post..
in fact.. I'm gonna gank your comment and put it in my sig.. it's the story of my life in game.
I'm in a PvP guild.. they basically require me to run covert, and spam form up..
i'm constantly getting yelled at to do different commands.. like I've never played before.
