In an intense standoff, two squads from rival armies have reached their positions and have taken shelter within the jungle foliage. Both squads know of the other's presence, as well as their location: straight ahead. Suddenly, the squad leader from one group decides to charge, each member knowing what direction to shoot.. However, this proves to be a big mistake, as this gives the other leader an opportunity to throw out a flashbang. A slight explosion, and a bright flash of light, was enough to disorient the approaching group for a few seconds, enough time for riflemen to pick them off one by one. However, little did the defending side know that before the charge, the attacking squad leader had thrown out a smoke grenade, shielding his stunned soldiers in a cloud of dark smoke from the riflemens' wrath. This leaves the defending side no choice but to charge into a smoke-filled battle...
Tactical grenades are items that should only be crafted by artisan professions (maybe the weaponsmith) and would be one-use items (so we can create a crafter-SL dependability). Different squad leaders can have different combinations (in terms of quantity and type) of grenades in their backpack, and can choose what type of grenade to throw. Here are some examples of what some of these grenades could be:
Flashbangs - Small explosives that give out a loud burst of sound and a bright flash of light. When thrown by the squad leader, any enemy that is caught within range looses their current target and the target is removed from the target order (to prevent shift-tabbing back). Unless the person knows their target's name, they would have to TAB or at least look around their screen to reclaim their target. This would be especially useful in situations where there are many people crowding the battlefield, as the enemy would be hard pressed to find their former target unless they used the /target command. Or there could be a timer where the enemy wouldn't be able to target anything for a number of seconds (that would probably be more simple). Would probably be useful in the event of a retreat.
Smoke Grenades - Small explosives that spew out black smoke. Anybody within its cloud puff (?) [maybe 30 meters] would be less likely to be hit by people outside the cloud. If two enemies are inthe smoke they would see each other just fine.
Etc. - I was just thinking, maybe we can have something like a tack grenade where it'll spill thumbtacks all over the place... you figure out what the result will be, hehe.
Questions, comments, or concerns would be appreciated.

I really like the idea of some kind of tactical weaponry in the SL tree, grenades or otherwise. It would make sense for all that combat experience a squad leader has to be utilised in someway and as the SL plays a supporting/leading role somesort of special grenade or special with limited damage, AoE and some sort of state effect would be a logical choice.
I like you idea for the grenades however I am concerned that they could end up getting spammed which could be very bad. The smoke grenades would render riflemen nigh on useless and the flashbangs would just get on everybodies nerves. If there was something to prevent this then I'd give it a big thumbs up, however I cant think of anything right now.
Weapon specials might be a better alternative. If they caused state effects (preferably with higher level specials having effects unique to the SL proffesion) there would be no problem with spamming because once they had stuck continuing to spam should yield no real benifit. Maybe an area stun special (for pistols, carbines and rifles) and a new state effect "confusion" while in this state the victims target would automatically change to another nearby target (within attack range) every 5 seconds. Form up could cure this as well as dizzy and stun (or another counter measure could be implemented) This would end up getting spammed so I'm trying to think of a way of stopping that...
I'd love to see a couple of "tactical grenades", a pistol, carbine and rifle cert as well as 2 specials for each in the SL proffesion. Would help make a SL (with skill points invested in ranged proffesions) a well rounded soldier who was an efficient and powerful leader.

If there was a timer that granted immunity to subsequent grenade effects once the first grenade hits the target, then the effectiveness of spamming grenades would diminish. Obviously, you want to make the timer significantly longer than the effect itself, to give the enemy an opportunity to counter-attack. You could also have a waiting period between grenade throws as well.
