Thread: New Defensive Skill/Ability?

Well, if the revamp goes well then a Squad Leader will prove to be an even more important asset to a group's effectiveness. It also means that targetting a group's Squad Leader will be a widely used tactic (just like targetting doctors and combat medics).

I think it would be nice if we could get some kind of ability that automatically bestows some kind of "guard" skill to anyone grouped with us. It could be hotkeyed by them like any other ability. It would allow a player to take lets say 75% of the damage done to you for the next 10 attacks or so (I am just throwing out numbers). The skill could have a 15 minute timer perhaps? I also think it shouldn't be stackable, meaning your group members would have to time it right as to not waste each other's guard. They would also have to be within a certain range of you (no guarding from 90m out).

Now the point isn't to make Squad Leaders invulnerable. Going after a group's squad leader should be a valid tactic. This skill would simply help compensate against the tactic, because truthfully in a balanced game if a group focuses their fire, then their target should fall pretty quickly.

I am also taking into account that it looks like armor will be toned down quite a bit, and quite soon (imagine this skill with 90% armor, synsteak, and PSGs :smileyhappy

I'd just like to see a suggestion that was made in another thread implemented. Put 3 weapon certs in the SL proffesion, a rifle, carbine and a pistol. Then if one of the trees had maybe a unique special for each weapon in it along with maybe a few acc or speed mods (not many mods mind you) I feel that would be enough to help an SL in combat if the SL masters a ranged proffesion. The specials would be some kind of AoE attack, probably not particuarly powerful but with a good chance to land state effects, maybe bleeds too.

Interesting idea Baron, but I don't think it will happen as stated. Having one prof grant an ability to another character doesn't seem like something that would be implimented, plus you'd have to remind people that you are granting it to them and for them to use it...

In my opinion, the way something like this should be implimented is a Guard ability to melee profs. Either an ability at Master, or at Novice (where at novice you get better as you climb one of the trees). The Melee'er would select an ally, and then click 'guard'. It could either redirect damage from the guarded ally to the melee guard, or another way to work it would be for some of the Melee'ers defensive abilities (block, damage mig) to be applied to the guarded ally. Either way, the ability would only work if the melee guard was within a certain distance of the ally, I'd limit it to the range of his melee weapon.

An ability like this would work great for guarding not only your SL, but your lightly armored riflemen, doctorsor combat medics.

Hmm, change your title to something other then MSL - even the 4 tier 4 SL titles will work, most ppl don't seem to realize they are SL titles, lol. Change your shouts to random noise... if your macro-spamming formup and retreat, they'll probably figure it out... if not, it might take them awhile...

Of course, if you have already done these things, and they still target you first... CONGRATULATIONS! YOU'RE A KNOWN SQUAD LEADER!

You're right. I think it would be best if this were some kind of innate ability for Brawlers. Just a general way to protect support professions.

I like to keep my guild members in line by putting up the "Commisar" title, and those that don't know their WWII history are immediately educated with the barrel of my gun
