I've been a squad leader for a long time and I know everyone has been complaining for a while now. But I'm starting to loose my positive outlook. /cough

For the Dev's: The test to see if a Squad Leader works or not is as follows:

Character walks up to a group with her/his Master Squad Leader profession showing.

She/he asks for an invite.

The current group leader automatically makes her/him leader of the group, or the group demands that she/he is made leader.

Full stop.

Thats all you need to know.

Work from that premise and you will know how to "fix" Squad Leader. Sorry if something similar has been posted.

You sir have no idea what it takes to be a Squad Leader if you feel that is true.

What should we as Squad Leaders be held to? What points must be met for us to know we are truely achieving our goals?

JJ DID TIE BUCKLE

Justice
Judgement

Dependability
I nitiative
Decisiveness

Tact
I ntegrity
Enthusiam

Bearing
Unselfishness
Courage
Knowledge
Loyalty
Endurance

We must meet each of those points. True, in an MMO, some of them would be difficult to do, or would fall on the shoulders of the Squad Leader to perform, but ironically....your suggestion doesn't affect a single one of them!

We as Squad Leaders get made leader in a group because we are "supposed to be". They don't have a clue what we do, or they do know that there is one skill that lets us run alot, and another that lights up stuff with a big red ball. They certainly take note when we spread the wounds around don't they?

Now in a PVP group, we used to be worthwhile because of our ability to heal Dizzy so easily. Funny thing is.....it resulted in Bots/mules hidden away in a house while the other 19 players took care of biz. Now, with only room for 8. Where a Doc, a Combat Medic, a couple tanks, a jedi and 3 ranged are needed.....there is no room for a guy that can direct combat with a red ball. Why? Because they are likely on Vent or TS and talking about it already. A help with burst run is nice, but there is food that does that..and with it, you can chain down FIVE burst runs at no loss to action so you can keep shooting. Need I go on? These are all things we want fixed, and to sit there and say its all fine is a sign that you don't know what is going on in this game.

There is absolutely no reason to settle for what we have. We need to show them that a couple nice weapons wont placate us. We need other professions demanding that we be made truely viable in the game so that they may enjoy group combat as well.

Now, you can either join in the helping of this profession, or you can hinder it. Right now, you aren't doing it any favors.

Sadly whether we like it or not we live in a universe that is filled with immediate gratification. We may be arguing the same point if all be told.

Regardless of our behaviour and goals (and believe me you wont find many more peoplecommited and dedicated to the principles of leadership) our bretheren want to know the tangible and immediate benefits that they will receive. Sadly this is lacking. If the Dev's concentrate on the goals that I set earlier then this will become clear and our profession will prevail. We can only hope.

That is a good test. From my Experience:

  • In a group with people I've never grouped with before, I have to request being group leader (many times its more of demand).

  • In large scale PvP, if I ask people if they want an invite from an MSL, I typically get told "I don't group for PvP"

  • In a group with people I have grouped with before, I get made leader very very quickly.

  • Due to my taking advantage of the recent double xp week, I recieve numerous tells now from people asking if I'm leading a group.

Now, the first two surprise me somewhat. I suppose they shouldn't, but I see ALOT of MSLs on my server since the CU, which begs the question "With all the SLs I see, why don't more people know what we can offer?" I know a few of themare skilled SLs.

or further more why do people not know what MOST proffs do? or thanks to respec and double xp, what thier OWN proff does?

you'll find simmilar frustrations with smuggs and cmswith everyone breaking thier roots or paying no heed to concussion shot.

i know the game changes a lot and its hard to do, but give the players a decent strat guide that details a proffs skills and basic techniques. all of the strat guides so far are just a description of what swg is not how to play it. if they did maybe players would have a better place or at least one thats not on these blasted forums to learn about the other proffesions they are interacting with. i've thought that since they put out the first one.

which btw, where is my shuttle!!?!!? i was supposed to be able to call a transport shuttle in the orig strat guide!

Yepp, me too on Ahazi.

I was in a 8ppl group yesterday with three MSL (including me, two of us being MCarb/MSL, the other MSL/BH/Car something), and one base bustertemplate taking bases.

Fun thing, I wasnt leading letting me take a seat back and let the other guys go to the trouble coordinating BUT I could test out how ppl in my group need to play.

I only had to target the MSL and keep hitting my hardest attack, and since I told all the other ranged to do that too, everything went down in just a few seconds.

Nice....

I just wanna say that when I did Syren pt3 the day it came out, I wandered in to the house in Keren with my tag on, and before I knew it, I was invited and made leader. Didn't have to say a word. I know I'm not a very good SL yet, but there are some people out there who know and appreciate us already.

PS this was a group of cl70-80 players, not rookies who didn't know what to expect.
