I strongly urge everyone in the SL forum to take a look in the GCW Forum for the "Roles in the GCW" thread posted by the Correspondant, BadMisterFrosty, on July 9.

Not everyone envisions us in the role that the majority of us seem to, but it appears a majority do.

We're also going to get more attention this way since "revamps" are out now.

Please check it out

This is what I posted there:

Speaking as just one Squadleader:

I ve grown tired of those role-calls especially in the GCW forum.

Noticed how some of the players of jedi characters are asking for
  • We want to enhance the group

  • We should be heros in the group enhancing them

Sorry for the generalization and rant but: "They" want it "all". "Everything".

And besides that all other ppl just want us Squal leaders to:
  • call more then one NPC faction Pet

  • an airstrike.

Those airstrike idea usually comes from players of imperial characters. And what should rebels get? An airstrike too?
Where does that fit into the Star Wars szenario.

In addition to that, the majority of squadleaders are leader of players not mindless NPCs, and personally, if I wanted to command NPCs, I play a RTS game.

Why dont you ask the profession correspondents to define their roles in their forum regarding to the the GCW and gather that there or on the Correspondent forum?

Regarding: Professions Roles in the GCW
The GCW correspondent should correspond with the profession correspondents.
In the GCW forum these thread usually end into jedi - anti jedi threads,
doing us all no good.

I posted something like this already once: here

Primary Role: Player character control and coordination

The SL gains a various skills to aid, guide and lead the group. He can assign targets and waypoints to characters and can call in formations or commands where when the characters follows the command will receive various defensive or offensive short time buffs.

Secondary Role: Crowd Control

The SL secondary role is crowd control, his player character coordinating abilities already influence the effectiveness of his group, his direct offensive and defensive skills are to either single out a target make it more vulnerable to attacks from his group or affect larger groups and hinder the attack or movement abilities of his opponents.

most important missing skills are besides the ability to from larger /meta groups / raid parties /platoons:

  • /assigntarget:
  • marks a target for all ppl in his group to attack this target, queueable (not just a red ball/corsshair), the SL can give a queue of up to 4 targets.
This is to coordinate the attack of all pl in his group.

  • /assignwaypoint:
  • by clicking on the/a map he can assign waypoint(s) to all/ a few/ one member of his platton.

There more is here, here and here in the Squad leader forum

ALL links are different links regarding a SL Revamp INCLUDING their role in the GCW.

It was once stated by the DEVs the although closely related to combat, SL should not be tied to much to the factions, to give neutral SL a meaning to.

90% of the input given there is mainly given by player who STILL ARE PLAYING Squad leaders.

Ask the players who play that profession what they want to be!
