Thread: /group commands: do they work?
This could also go in other forums, but as we are all aspiring group leaders, it makes sense here I think.
I have been in one group since launch that had the "notify" commands working. When someone looted or harvested, a /sysgroup type message came up saying who had done it and what they got. If you look at the manual or at "/group menu" you can not only be notified of these things, you can enforce a rotating loot for groups. I have turned all these things on, but my groups have never had it work. If I look at "/group menu" I see everything checked, but it never works.
What's the trick to making this work?
I consider this a critical fix that should be at the top of their list since it effects the entire grouping dynamic, but haven't heard anything on the issue from the devs.
This is a grouping problem though and not something to do specifically with the squad leader profession.
Only time I ever saw them working was one week in late Beta.
But they were vague and unhelpful even then.
They work extremely sporadically (something like 5% of the time it seems). This will definently be commented on by me, tommorow, to SOE, although I cannot put it as one of the top 5 issues as it is not a direct Squad Leader issue.
Actually you can.
As a long time Team Leader for DAOC one thing you realize is that ANYTHING that directly impacts the ability of the class to be effective at what it does is part of your 'domain' to comment on.
We are unique in that we ONLY gain our XP while leading a group, so therefore anything dealing with this group dynamic directly impacts the SL, and it within your realm of influence. If groups are NOT splitting loot fairly, if groups can NOT be managed well, then no one wants to be in large groups. if no one wants in large groups, there are no groups for a SL to lead. I honestly think the group problems are the biggest road block to successful SLs right now.
I think the role of the Squad Leader Correspondent is also that of the watchdog for all group combat and organization activities.
If we don't report on these issues as high importance, who will?
There's no "Combat Correspondent" (although I think there should be.... Combat, Economy and Socialization Correspondents...)
As Squad Leaders we must be surrogate parents to the poor orphaned group issues.
