Thread: Politician? Elite-Elite Squad Leader?

The In Development section has a new article that goes a little deeper into Player Cities. They listed two new professions that would be added: Politician and Urban Planner. They also said that the Urban Planner would be an Elite-Elite profession, with a prerequisite of Master Architect. Could Politician also be an Elite-Elite profession? Perhaps with a prerequisite of Master Squad Leader. Perhaps that's what they really have in mind for our currently bland profession. If this were true (hypothetically), how would you feel about it? Would you sacrifice one of your other professions to get Politician skills? Do you think it would make sense for a Politician to be a former Squad Leader (i.e. both require people skills)? Let's hear what you think.

I find this highly unlikely.

Politician /= Battlefield Commander. I think that if Politician were to be 'Elite-Elite' from anything, it would be Merchants, or something from Entertainers.

That being said I find it more likely that it will be either an all new profession line or an Entertainer/Artisan hybrid like Smugglers are with Unarmed/Marksman.

PERSONAL OPINION WARNING

I agree with Janus, it's two different worlds.

Although that +10 Leadership mod from being human might FINALLY get used for something. As an aspiring Squad Leader myself, it wouldn't make me particularly happy to see that mod go to someone else, but at least it would be used.

Actually if you think about it, Politician makes perfect sense being an elite-elite profession of Squad Leader. In real life its natural for a leader on the battlefield to eventually become the leader of a country, personally I believe its the natural progression of a squad leader....

in RL, only those "squad leaders" that spent their carieer behind a desk, never holding a gun in combat or leading men in combat becomes a successfull politician.

doesnt make any sense to me (though that would not stop the DEV's from doing it) .... leading in the battlefield is often VERY different than leading in politics ... some excellent generals-turned-political leaders have been HORRIBLE at their jobs ... in fact, you might often find that more direct and successful battlefield tactics do not work in the more subtle and manipulative world of politics ...

merchant seems more applicable, though not necessary ... i would like to see it as an elite not an elite-elite ... i dont see why combat at all would be required ... though i also wonder at he validity of the current entertainer lines as a base to Politician, not to mention the unrelated grind that someone interested in politics would have have to go through just to get to what they want to play ....

i am very interested myself, and if done properly, i would try a politican

it might would even warrant its own novice profession, but i highly doubt that would happen ... perhaps a new novice profession - the bureaucrat - and you run delivery missions to get the experience .. heh, you could work for NPC politicos in established cities and run around campaigning for votes or muckraking their opponents, learning the justice/legal system, working court cases ... that would seem more applicable

I think that the Politician profession would come from the novice actor tree and that the only way you can become nominated is byemigrating from the "unoficial" German server.

lol!

Has anyone heard anything about what the prereq's for politician is going to be? I would hate to have to drop all my combat skills to keep the broken Squad Leader plus politician.
