Thread: Squad Leaders rebuilt from scratch?

Something I find curious is that people say SLs need to be "revamped" or "overhauled." Personally I think this is an understatement. The profession needs to be entirely scrapped and rebuilt from the ground up. Apparnatly SOE doesn't know what the heck to do with the Squad Leader, as they came up with an entirely useless profession to begin with. If we could come to a consensus about exactly what we want Squad Leaders to be, perhaps they'll listen to their paying customers.

Here are a list of what I believe an SL should be and why he would be usefull:

1) True leadership is based off of communication. I would say over half of the Squad Leader skill tree should be devoted to this. Examples already given: painted targets, and associated skills. an example I've given previously, Squad waypoints and temporary missions. While certain features were supposed to be included in the game that weren't, it would be quite effective to incorporate them into the SL profession

2) A leader inspires. This could be shown by applying measurable states rather than mods. For example, give a squad leader action that will make all melee characters go berzerk with reduced penalties to those characters. Or, other similar states that could be applied to ranged weapons.

3) A leader leads. While I'm not a big proponent of SL's soloing, I believe that there should be certain pets available to SLs only. The examples given elsewhere are NPC mercenaries for hire to SLs. This would actually give at least one reason to want an SL inyour group.

So the point of this post is to get some votes on if we want a complete rebuild, and if/how we will design it ourselves to submit to the dev's.

So, let's hear votes... complete rebuild or just fixes? And maybe we could get CaptainVemnox to set up some official voting threads and what we want to include in the rebuild if we can get the dev's attention.

Malakh Hamavet - Valcyn - [Squad Leader/Commando] in training (yes I know, the two most useless professions, but at least they're fixing commando right away)

I vote for a comlete overhaul. Let's start from scratch, give us a line for SL exlclusive pets (mercs or generic like Corsec or Fed-Dub or RSF), and from there work out meaningful abilities. The ones we have now wouldnt be so terrible if they werent broken and so few and far between.

I like the idea of a revamp as well, although not a complete one.

Many of the abilities are cool in principle, just unusable in practice. Volley Fire is cool, but doesn't work properly, so is the Steady Aim, etc, etc.

A few new abilities would be cool too, in place of the static group bonuses that don't appear to do anything. I suggested something like a one way ticket purchase to anywhere on the map from a shuttle terminal, called "Deployment", something like that would be cool.

Heck just getting it to work right as it is would be good. while people are saying we should not get points for leading pets (though they listen better then players sometimes) I whole line of our own would be as useless.

Why do I say fix? well I got furstered for being razzed as one of the first down granted i have feigh death but still medics are busy healing themselves most times. I dropped everything I had but Mobility 1 ( I hate waiting for pets to catch up mine or other peoples.) I picked up Novice pistoleer and novice medic to 4-1-0-1.

Not only have a been asked to more groups with feild stabilzer tag over my head but frankly I am doing so much better. This alone tellsme rally is broke(since i owuld wait to start every battle for it to work before we opened fire), the defence does not work and Steady aim is nothing more then a self inflicted Mind hit.

I think it would be neat for pets that are under your command to be able to accpet commands from /sysgroup.

Fix what we got and let us "beta" test what we are supposed to have before itis said to overhual the profession.

heck not that i think about it... instead of a spec line of pets give us medical skills. or instead of boost moral re-distributing wound why not damage..
