Squad Leader Archive

As a squad leader, does your ranged defence and melee defence lines effect you even if you solo, or if your not the leader of a group?

example:

you get melee defence through a melee class like two handed sowrd, then you raise only the squad leader lines that add melee and ranged defence, does it stack? do you absolutly HAVE to be the leader of the group to enjoy the benifets of those two lines?(the melee defence and ranged defence lines)

this is more of a selfish squad leader... all i care about is do i get the melee and ranged defence weather grouped or not grouped? personally... not as a group. even when soloing?
