Just made SL yesterday, mainly because I play regularly with a group of IRL friends and and the SL skills filled a gap in our groups ability.
Anyway, what I did first was to set up some basic SL macros using /sys, stuff like "/sys Target is %TT. Fire!" and "/sys All wings, form up on me!"
I've stuck these on my hotbar, but what with my combat commands and traps and stuff, I don't have a whole lot of room there, so I was wondering if I could set these things to aliases so I would just type "/as" and it would perform the command "/sys The next target will be %TT. All wings assume attack positions". But I can't get that to work.
Has anyone set up a similar system they'd like to share?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have similar ones. I wrote them as macros, and mapped them to the camera control keys, which I wasn't using anyway.

you can get more hotkeys up there too, by dragging the bar down. the other keys listed there are used by pressing shift + the function key.

Yeah I know about the bottom row - I'm currently using all 12...
What with stand, sit, kneel, prone, burst run, assist, supression fire, headshot2, mindshot 1, mindshot 2, aim, attack, peace, my laser rifle, my spraystick, 2 bone spurs or stink bombs, 2 phenacine darts and 2 glow juice traps I'm left with a grand total of four slots for macros. :-/
I like the camera control idea though... maybe the number keys

camera control keys...I didn't think about that.
/me goes to map those keys to nifty SL /sys messages ![]()

I find that setting a macro to:
/sysgroup Got incapped from Mind Damage again. Sorry, Squad!
tends to be very useful.

You can set aliases - funny enough I just tried it a couple of minutes ago without knowing how it works.
Simply type "/alias (alias) (command)" and it will bind (command) to (alias). Here's an example:
"/alias /sys /sysgroup" will call "/sysgroup" when you just type in "/sys" and hit return. Since this is pretty useless, you might want to try "/alias /sys /sysgroup %1" - this will call "/sysgroup" when you type "/sys" and append anything afterwards. That means if you type now "/sys Retreat!" you will get the system message to the group, saying "Retreat!".
I yet have to find out how to bind a keymap so it can get called via hotkeys - just like CTRL + R does with "/reply".

/sys is already default for /sysgroup, no need to make an alias for it.
