Ok, so I want to know if the devs are going to change the way mind dmg currently works in this game. So far, there is nothing you can do about mind damage in this game, which is the biggest reason players can't tank and we have to rely on pets.


So if "Mind is not supposed to be the determing factor in combat." then what are you going to do about the current situation where mind *IS* the determing factor in combat?







We don't know yet. Several possibilities have been discussed. I've participated in discussions about:



  • letting squad leaders heal it
  • letting entertainers heal it in the field
  • letting medics heal it, but take mind wounds
  • letting someone heal it but slowly, so they have to stand next to the healee for a substantial amount of time (and need covered, etc)
  • adding a new camp type that only heals mind pool

I'm sure there's even more ideas floating around.

Normally I try to cut the Devs a lot of slack, but in this case Holo needs to decide which version of the truth he wants to stick with. What's that? Did I just accuse Holo of lying? Well yes I did. Or at least of warping reality quite a bit.

See, Mind Pool is crucially important to a few classes. Healers, Riflemen, and Squad Leaders. We are the three classes that brutally drain the Mind Pool just by performing our special moves. However, originally Medics were able to Stim the Mind Pool. So, of course, they would heal everyone until they were out of Mind Pool, then stim their own Mind Pools and keep on healing. It made them way to powerful at low levels. The solution, of course, was to remove Mind Pool healing from the game (because increasing the timer on healing would have been too easy).

So we're not supposed to really be as screwed over by the Mind Pool costs as we are when casting our skills. In the original setup of the game, a Medic should have been able to just heal our Mind Pools right back up.

However, as some of you may have noted, I'm a Rifleman. I'm also a cantakerous loudmouth, but that's not what the issue here is. The issue is the peculiar situation caused by the "unhealable" Mind Pool. The Riflemen have been doing a lot of complaining (mostly about the fact that we couldn't hit a Death Star inside of 40 meters and we get a 250% Melee Damage Penalty), and what we have been told time and time again is that we have one unique advantage over everyone (except for Bounty Hunters, Teras Kasi Artists, and Swordsman, so you know, everyone). Our unique ability is that we can hit the Mind Pool, and that is "unhealable" damage.

I'm bringing this up here because the Mind Pool is one of the truly limiting issues that Squad Leaders have to face. The Mind Pool costs are crippling on our skills, especially when they fail. But Mind Pool was originally HEALABLE. Now that it is not healable, it is suddenly some sort of pre-planned equalizer for certain combat classes.

They have to pick one. Is it an equalizer for distraught combat classes? Or is it just an exploit fix that, itself, needs a fix? And who will get that magic Mind Pool heal ability? The lack of answers in this department needs to be a high-priority issue for us, because whomever can heal the Mind Pool is going to OWN the Squad Leaders.

I seriously hope it goes to Squad leader... entertainers have no place in battle because they are not a combat class.


SL is a front line combat class.

Every competent, full time healer that I have grouped with was also an entertainer. If they give mind healing to entertainers, then they might as well just give it to medics straight away!
