Good day,

I have been a novice Squad Leader for roughly two weeks now. I have led groups ranging from 5-20 in activites that include Kryat Dragon runs, Lok exploration trips (the Volcano). I have enjoy the leading of a group, but I also notice quite a few things. I will list what my observations where, and ask for your responses.

What I am trying to solve is, Do I need to spend points in a professions that currently offers nothing other than a title.

1. I found that having the Squal Leader title tends to let people have some immediate level of trust.

2. To be an effective Squad Leader, no skill ingame that is supported will make you any better than the Creature Handler next to you.

3. Regardless of Ingame skills for SL, no Squad leader will have respect of members, and will find themselves simply used for stat increases. but this in no way ensures your "leadership" role.

4. The /sysgroup command is very handy, but should be more feature rich. There are plenty of ways to expand just that portion of the skill, but that can be discussed in another post.

Basically, I find that a leader is an innate ability that can not transcend into a game skill. There is not any one thing that will give you respect, loyalty to direction, and trust from your group members. It is a matter of several elements that eventually make up a "known" and respected SL

So why do it? Why not save the points, earn a rep as a good leader regardless of proff, and advance yourself into another area that might be more beneficial?

Areas I do see for improvement are battlefield control for the galactic civil war. Allowing "leaders" access to tools that better enhance their natural abilities, rather than forcing some commands to "fake" a leader.

Discuss...

All that you say is true. The best way to be be a good SL is to first be a good L. It seems obvious to me that SL is a secondary, at best, profession and requires that you have some other skills that allow you fight, or otherwise boost your group. That said, it seems a shame to throw away 350k of SL XP. I suppose we can only hope that taking some of these trees will help you in the long run, after any proposed changes are instituted.

I suggest getting the mobility line, I noticed immediate group improvement with that, being the ranger who always left the group behind and had to wait....

Also, I think that you can obviously make a great leader as a Combat Medic, Commando, Brawler, whatever. Leadership is intrinsic to the individual. I just believe that having the title will make it more memorable for the peeps you run into.

This:

" I had a great time hunting with so&so. She was a great medic, blah, blah, blah."

or this:

" I had a great time hunting with Occamz. He took his leadership responsibility seriously and made sure that we all had a great time."

Really, it doesn't matter much. I just like it when I log on and my friends say, "where we off to today, boss?" I might be a brokeass peon IRL, but in game, I'm a solid and respected leader.
