Squad Leader Archive
Thread: So...I am gaining in a tree that is stuck in its current uselessness for 3 weeks?
I don't know guys. I love the idea behind Squad Leaders. My group loves having me with them due to my Squad Leader title, and it even gives them a sense that they are under a capable mans hands. But, right now I am seriously thinking about dropping this useless class for something else until something is done.
But **edit**...it would make me almost cry to lose all this time for something else. I adore my SL title, it is like an homage to my dedication to group combat and my willingness to lead soldiers into battle for the sake of a better outcome in the fight. But in all seriousness this entire class is easily the most useless thing to have on the battlefield.
The ONLY thing that is worth using for us is Steady Aim, since it allows my Commando's to strike their targets no matter what. THIS is useful, everything else is not. Rally fails and strikes me for 225 of my 900 mind, then my pistoleer skills slowly drain my 900 mind even more while fighting. Then an enemy strikes my mind for 110 and then I try to Volley Fire on this enemy just to fail and lose another 115 - 338 mind in the process, basically turning me into a man who is out of the fight because I'm unable to use specials because my mind is busted or I'm on the ground because the next mind attack takes me down.
Half the time I'm sitting down waiting for my mind to come back up while my group members twiddle their thumbs.
Augh...this is going to be a terrible thing but it is something I may just have to do. I may have to leave Squad Leader far behind until SOMETHING is done about it. It will take fixing, changing, revamping, adding, and a whole slew of other things for the SL to become an efficient member of the team, but for right now I feel as if I'm doing more harm then good.
Sorry to hear you feel that way DrowsyJedi.
I know that SL has some issues to be fixed. However i dont fully agree that the class is totaly useless. As in your case i too have many friends i group up with. I have diffrent /sys commands in diffrent colours for targets, actions etc. For me rally actually works 2 out of 3 times (i must been born under a lucky star). "Form up" works great, though i hate the yell command to it andif not perhaps the most usefull skillit boost morale on troopswhen they see i cure them from dizzy and stun (most melees). Terrainbonus is also a add to thegroup since wemove faster over terrain. And asyou said Steady aim helpsin hitting the target for ranged personel.
Pations is a virtue. And if you feel SL is your gametype i say stick to it and build a reputation. (Wich you seem to been doing already). Changing class wont change anything and you are doing alot for the squad nowthat easily are forgotten.
Personaly i choosed carbine weapons so i dont know about the mindcost of pistols. (Have not got volleyfire yet either.). You might want to look into changing the stats so you get better generation of mind.
But hang in there. SL will be looked at (they already promised that). It takes determination to lead a squad. So show us what you are made off
.
Most of all.. Have fun =).
"<psst>. hey mon, want some drugs mon? gooood drugs?"
Seriously; I was really doubting my decision to be a Squad leader till I found Gray Gabreki and Yarrock. One lets you goose up efficiency of Mind Use by 500 points (takes me from 425-925 and allows me 6 - 7 Rallys versus 2-3).
The other adds to Mind, Focus, and Willpower and is not so great on the big HAM burners but works better on the others.
What I discovered was
1) Don't use your SL skills in low crisis situations. You are wasting HAM and slowing down group fun. Do save them for those critical fights when they make a difference. Last night we were aggroed by a group of Desert Lizards. The fight was going terribly until I slammed Gray Gabrecki and Rally and Volly Fire. Went from a sure loss to adoable win with another Rally and I ended with over 50% mind left including Pistoleer moves. The only drawback was 9 minutes later I was spittin' arse hairs ralphin but that fades for me in about 2 minutes.
By the way i still have insanely high Action bars and I seem to be drug sick a LOT less time than some I hear. Can you post how long these make you sick and stats?
Action 950, Quickness 800
Ralphin' time mebbe 2 minutes
