Thread: Why I think Pistoleer is a good combo for SL

I grouped with another SL last night and it was a very good time. We shared the group and it seemed to work out pretty well. We definitely had different styles, and I have a few thoughts on the matter. BTW Daub, greast job last night....I'm still laughing about those huurtons....

The othe SL was a crabineer and used the SL specials much more than I did. I just got them and was playing on a friend's computer so I made a few macros, but was busy just trying to get everything to work for me and didn't use them musch at first.

I noticed he was using Rally and Steady aim a lot. Rally seemed to work 50% or more(better than I expected actually)and the Mind cost looked sort of heavy, but I also noticed that he was using a lot of laser carbine specials and the combination chewed his Mind to oblivion a few times. Might have been other stuff going on to.

When I used those special later it onlyseemed to take maybe a tenth or an eigth of my total mind pool which seemed reasonable. I never got below half and I was keeping steady aim on regular rotation. Now, of course this could be for any number of reasons, but I think that by being a pistoleer and using specials that didn't drain my HAM too much, I was able to use my SL skills without such a drain on the ol' pool.

Of course the problem is I don't do a whole lot of damage and my SL points don't rocket up, but I feel that in reality the damage I do shouldn't be tied to my SL points anyway. I've got tanks and commandos to do the huge damage. I want to be able to focus on everyone else and keep the machine going, not worry about blasting high points off.

So it's a choice I made, but I really think Pistoleeris a greatcombo with SL.

Any other opinions?

BTW if you have pistoleer skill "disarming shot" you can use this to do double damage on MOB lairs. (probably a known exploit)

Lots of people picked Carbineer to go with SL because of all the posture change and knockdown moves, in order to fill in as crowd control when necessary. With the recent timer placed on these effects, carbineers are no longer much better at crowd control than anyone else.

I think there's only one carbine special that uses mind (crippling shot), but it's a massive damage one, so he may have been using it a lot. I suspect that lower Willpower and Focus were more to blame for the bigger Mind hits he was taking.
