Thread: SL template for former Jedi Beater DOwner
I am taking Squad Leader (I know you'll hate me) for the Intinidator Pistol. I've always said to myself since CU if I ever go back to the good ol blaster by my side it would be that one... I am looking to build a template that would make me fairly good in 1v1 ranged (I am hopeless on standing up to jedi and melee) and good in pvp. I was thinking along the lines of:
Either - 4044 Pistoleer, MSL, 4004 CM
Or - M Pistoleer, MSL, 4000CM with 0410 Medic.
What do you guys think? Think I'll be wanting to go back to melee?

Well I am currently a TKM stacker and can beat most Jedi on my server. I am growing sick of the melee thing after two weeks of template complete and beating down nearly everone of fight.

Well as a melee stacker you will probably be tempted to return just because melee stackers are sometimes impossible to take down. The template you have above is not bad though, you have good healing and once our revamp hits some cool buffs to use. Standing up to jedi and melee though you should be able to do ok, you would be limited to 35m so you could get taken out a lot easier then if you were a carbineer or rifleman template.
I'd say MBH MSL pistols 4004
with the upcoming healing nerf - cm 4000 is a waste of points as the heals will be pretty much unusable.
with the SL movement speed buff and the lack of pistol movement encumberence, you could kite any melee profession with ease except for maybe jedi with FR1
Not sure how it would hold up against ranged 1 on 1, but someone was saying with SL buffs people can do +212% damage which is tripling damage output, so if you just switched to a rifle for one critical shot, it should be a 1 hit incap

I said that... and, you miss a small detail... you can make your teammate do that, not yourself. You can even make one teammate do that and keep the rest at only a little lower damage output... but you yourself have to keep spamming the special to do that massive damage output and will not fire a single shot.
I consider the spamability of the mentioned special to be a bug, it's just too mighty. For 1 on 1, this ability is of limited use, since you have to decide between the ability or shooting at the target, and if you don't shoot, all the damage bonus won't be any good for you. But in combination with a team, the ability currently is badly overpowered.
Actually i am currently undecided on how i would like it to be fixed... it's teeempting not to report it and go around in godmode, but that's a sure way to get it badly nerfed within days. I assume the "correct" way to fix it would be to give a target something like a 15 seconds immunity to the ability. Once marked, it takes the powered up damage from the complete team once, then is immune for some time, so the team has a nice edge on first strike but can't power-kill everything without a sweat.
As additional info, despite not requiring group leader status any more, several SL abilities after the revamp still require you to be grouped and some are also only applicable on other teammates and not the SL himself. (So, even the "droid or pet in group" trick won't help you there...) So while the new SL offers a little bit more for fighting alone then the old SL, it's still a very bad choice for solo playing.
If you plan to go fighting together with some friends, you can be very valuable for the group. If some balance issues are not adressed, having some SL-dabblers in your group will again make the group significally stronger without an appropriate investment in skillpoints. But if you plan to fight alone, you will hate the SL and soon go for something else.

1vs1 as a SL against jedi?
You'll enjoy the pistol in your hand while you lay corpsed on the ground. SL is not and will not be a solo duelist profession.

I decided I'd rather get a second account. I cant give up my powerhouse Dark Sideish char. But my SL Pistoleer will be a Good ol blaster by your side, yt-2400 piloting Mercenary! Star Wars Style 8-)
Smuggler's alliance freelance pilot + Master smuggler +master pistoleer for the best RP imo
always been a fan of Han, though i've never been a smuggler myself.
I'd have to agree i'd rather get a second account as well, but can't really afford/can't stand to pay more than 15 bucks a month, so till i decide to grind out paddy and unlock the 2nd char, it's 1 toon for me. ![]()
