Alot of SL's go carbineer for the "Crowd control" features. The status effects that come with Carbineer are kinda nice, although horribly broken atm.

Carbine for atmosphere, pistol for effectiveness.

I was thinking maybe going for a tree in commando or something, would that have any merit? like having skill in using a flamethrower or heavy acid rifle? If thats dumb than ill probably just go carbineer than

HAR is broken. Flamethrower is only good at 16m.

Anything you want. I have some Rifleman for the defensive bonuses and he T21 and carbineer for the special attacks and the goofy defensive bonuses that Rifleman doesn't give (KD, Intimidate, Counterattack).

The big problem, and this is something you might want to look at very closily, is the HAM costs for whatever Profession you will be going into. The most useful skills we have as SL takes Mind, Rifle takes Mind, means you don't use them often. Some of our skills cost action as well, the best motto for a Carbineer is this: "I bet I can kill me faster than you can kill me". This is pretty accurate as you drain your Action HAM so fast that I have had people ask me how I was being hit by the critter we were fighting when I never was.

I speculate that Pistol might be the best fit, as you get even goofier defences as well as pretty good Melee Defence and the HAM focus is on health, where SL rarily touches. Bad thing about pistol is that their AP is none to light and low damage, thus reduced by 25% for every level of armor that your target has. Rancor with Heavy armor means your damage is nearly halved. But you have the fastest rate of fire in the game and I heard at one point that Pistoleer can use 2 pistols (I am not sure if this is still the case).

I have no clue aboutBrawler+ SL, but that might be an interesting combo. The best read I had on that stuff is on the Rifleman thread where they do a breakdown on all of them, set on a defensive stand point.

As a rifleman i enjoy the power that i can pack in a punch but it really comes in handy when dealing with emergency situations were absolutely positively a mob has to die.I have no problem burning mind since im stat migrated for rifleman and I do find problems in action but i have gone unbuffed in anything but mind and lasted severl hours before my first incap

Couple of points.

#1, Pistol drains mostly action, not health for specials.

#2, No dual pistols.

That being said, pistol is still the wisest as far as HAM costs go with SL.

I'm a pikeman/SL... I really don't know if I'm effective, but I don't care. I do a good job helping my team, and the way I look at it... I lead the charge. Hit retreat, charge in with your team, Rally, zoom the camera out, and beat the enemy down.
