well depends. i kept some melee after i picked up SL. From a purly skillpt point of view though, not really. You would have to keep a third novice prof, and if you plan on healing yourself make that four. The only thing i kept from master brawler/master fencer/master tka was the presision line from tka for the defences. I traded in all my other melee skills for commando 3040. It works well for large scale pvp battles, and your guildies love the added bonuses from SL. I would suggest sticking with marksman classes unless you already have the melee and are in the middle of a template change. To each his own though.

You can be a melee profession...but I wouldn't. I was a Pikeman and a Master Squad leader...but you will find that one of your best SL abilities, /formup which clears the dizzy and stun state from your entire group, doesn't work if you yourself are under the influence of those states. In PvE being melee usually means you will be up there next to the target...and if your group is hunting rancors (or something simular) and you get hit with an area dizzy, then an area knock down...all your troops that are laying on the ground will be there at least until your dizzy clears, or until a doc runs in and cures it. I've dropped Pikeman and am currently going for a ranged profession as it will let me get more use out of SL's already meager skills. But that's just me...
