Thread: New Player Considering SL

Hello. I'm a fairly new player, but I've gotten to the point where I need to choose a profession and I'm seriously considering Squad Leader. I've been drawn to it ever since i first heard about it really, but I'm slightly concerned it if will be any fun or not. I guess I'm trying to find out if it will be rewarding and worth my time.
Also if I do choose it, which I think I will. I would rather wish that I could find somebody that could teach me how to actually *BE* a Squad Leader (in game), not just read about it here on the forums and haphazardly try to make sense of it, but have somebody actually teach me.
So I guess my second thing is how would I go about finding somebody that could/would be willing to do that. I'm on Sunrunner. Maybe if you know of somebody there, you could give me a heads up. I would rather appreciate it.

Oh, I've also sort of been wondering what other profession(s) worth pursuing alongside SL. Thanks in advance.

welcome to the game and our ranks!

i would help you with learning SL in the game, but i'm on Bloodfin, not sunrunner. i do however know there's a way to send tells and/or in game email to players on other servers. i forget how to do it specifically, but perhaps someone else will know it?

as far as other profs to use w/ SL, your best bets are to masterone of the 3 elite ranged profs, Pistoleer, Carbineer, or Rifleman. you can also then add in much of one of the other two. Bounty Hunter is also a good all-around prof to compliment SL (my current temp is MSL / MBH / Rifles 4030). if you do it all correctly, there's enough skill points to get 1/2 of an elite prof in addition to 2 elite masters.

check out http://www.bloodfin.org/modules/mydownloads/to get a good offline profession calculator. this wont upload or mod your SWG game, but will allow you to play around with the skill point totals to figure out what your template will be. (one note though: make sure you select Marksman-Ranged Support 4 when building a template that includes SL, the program has neglected that pre-requisite for SL)

good luck and use this SL forum often. a lot of good information and advice can be found here

Welcome aboard! Every question you can think of has been asked about SL. By those wondering about the skills and such. Take a look at the forums first or ask someone in game. Check out the Professional SL list and there's at least 1 SL on Sunrunner and they may give you a hand. The last post had it pretty much right on the money about everything. But it all depends on your style as well. Me, I couldn't go without Terrain Negotiation from the Scout Tree. Plus, I also took Trapping 1 and Hunting 1 and I'm Master Carbines as well. It will take a while, so be patient. Hunt in groups with at least 1 level 80 to get good xp. Have fun with sl and you'll learn a lot about it.
