Thread: Use the abilities, then judge them?
I see way too much whining and complaining about abilities that NOONE has used yet? How can you judge how restrictive to PC's or how usefull a command will be until you use it? In spite of the lack of attention over the first couple months, this was one of the few forums that had constructive and insightful posts regarding use of existing skills and potential new ones -- now it's like the pistoleer forum!
Right now, it appears as if the "professional leaders" of SWG need some professionalism. You can flame me if you like, but that will just further prove my point about the "lynch mob" mentality in the forum the last couple days.

The thing is most competant squadleaders use these type ofcommands already via /Sygroup messages and policing the group well enough with clever macros.
But 'fixing' the proffession by giving us abilties most of the competant squad leaders use and do already is just stupid - why would I spend so many skill points on a proffession giving me abilities I can doalready without any skill points needed? And then there is treating players like pets is a step to far.... I mean I know it's Pet Wars Galaxies but player pets now?
I'm not exactly sure how disagreeing with these ideas equates to whining and complaining. Are we not supposed to take an active role in the development of our profession? If that's the case, then why do we even have a correspondant? Are no ideas bad ones until they fail? So that whatever idea is thrust upon us first should be tried... then the next... then the next... etc? Rather than, say, discussing the various ideas and selecting based on whatever criteria (in this case I'd say based on what the majority feel they would prefer) and trying those ideas that, by consensus, are the best first?
The widespread dissatisfaction with the proposed improvements are backed by anumber of arguments, arguments no one has attempted to refute from what I've seen. In fact, the only posts I've seen in favor of these ideas is "no one has tried them yet, how do you know they'll be bad." To which a number of people have responded exactly why they know (or at least feel) these changes will be detrimental.
I admit I am quite literally astonished toa "No one's seen the skills in action yet--they might be good so let's allow the devs to implement them" argument, much less so many posts along those lines. Does the fact that we have not seen them firsthand immediatelyinvalidate all debate? Does it somehow validate what many consider to be dubious ideas?
That last paragraph should read:

Prez, my point was that one of the primary complaints is that players dont want to be pets... but in my experience most players are looking for bonuses associated with being grouped under a SL. Maybe some of the proposed skills will help with that, maybe they won't . I don't think that most of the posts regarding the skills are being constructive, they are just saying they don't want them. I, for one, wll at least try them if they are implemented and see if any of them are of value to me. If they all fail as consistently as /rally there won't be many complaints from group members , anyway.
In all honesty, right now I'm just frustrated and tired of all the posts explaining how badly the new commands suck and the posters new skill-set that they would love to see. Maybe if things were a little more organized and not the same things re-hashed it would look a little different to me. Some of the posters aren't even squad leaders and haven't been able to try any of the old skills but yet I should value their opinions? Yes, I've had players complain about /rally, and I've also had groups ask for it -- so I can say I love /rally or hate it strictly based on which group I felt was better and/or more efficient. Maybe I need to keep USING it to get a better idea how beneficial or horribleit is?
Lastly, for all other SL's: how many SL's are playing on test center? Maybe that's a way to give the devs more insight into the profession?
A lot of the people who post here seem to be the type who were Hall Monitors when children. "Please sit quietly back and be good children because the adults have spoken and we shouldn't disagree with them." Welcome to the real world.
And I am not paying to play this game to go over to test center and grind a new character up through SL and whatever other classes. No Way, No How!
