Thread: Alternative to splitting up groups as a Squad Leader Ability
I dislike the idea of seperate platoons or teams within my group, and that probably isn't aided by the fact that I dislike most of the proposed Squad Leader tree.
Lemme bust a "What if" though:
*busts*
Let's say you get an ability at Master Squad Leader called Field Commander or something of the like. Field commander allows you to be the overall leader of several other groups headed up by other squad leaders. All of the commands that are present or on the way would work the same way, but see, instead of buffing everyone in the uber-group, you are buffing your group of Lieutenants (the squadleaders of the other groups). That could be silly, so maybe instead if you are currently a Field Commander the standard list of commands functions differently (Rally could give temp ham bonus or attack speed, Steady Aim could incur a damage bonus. I would be sad if I couldn't somehow make VolleyFire order a force-targeted concentrated attack of 20 - 100 people on one thing, but obviously it wouldn't have to do this all the time).
This would institute a combat chain of command - the Field Commander can either hang back or be actively involved in battle, but now when he gives sysgroup commands, it goes to all the leaders of all the groups under him - just like in real war.
This could potentially give the Master Squad Leader the ability to lead planet-wide, time-sensitive ccoordinated strikes. Again, this would create a real chain of command and give a higher level of leadership and responsibility to those of us that seek it.
