That's the amount of mind drained from me after 3 consecutive failed attempt on Rallying or Volley Fire, you name it.

Needless to say I got incapped on the very next shot by a witch (I was on Dathomir).

Of all the times I've tried using Rally/Volley Fire, success rate is 30/70. 30% work, 70% fail. I'm not sure if the dev intended for these skills to be "The Skills" for SL so we can head back to town faster, but judging after 3 weeks of non-stop grouping, it sure does look like it.

Either lower the HAM cost, increase the success rate, or do both. Right now SL is only useful because of the /sysgroup function.

Hence the term SQUAD, which is a portion of your team name. As a squad leader, you should be required to have the following:

a) A squad: 6 or more in your team -- not just you and your Rancor or faction NPC.

b) The sense to stay back in the battle and direct, rather than being the front man. You'll never catch a Colonel out in front of his men in a live-fire, he's behind them shouting commands to the Sergeants...

c) Kneel and utilize specials that don't drain your mind. Use your skills as they were intended and at the appropriate times. Spamming /rally, /volleyshot, /rally should get you incapped. Try experimenting with situational usage. These commands have their purposes and limitations...keep that in mind.

c) .

Han Solo was a General and he was always front and center

Being as Squad Leader allows for a 2nd profession, some might be non-combatants and some will be combatants- SL should accomodate them both.

Well they designed the XP system so that you have to stand up front and fight to grind up the skill ladder. Seems to me they didn't design it as a profession that sits in the back of the group, but more as a fighter with group support.

Um, question. If I am supposed to kneel in the background and use my skills, how am I supposed to make any Squad Leader XP? Seriously. You only get Squad Leader XP for the damage you deal yourself.

Besides, this profession is called Squad Leader, not Tactician. You're not the Owner or the Coach of the team, you're the Captain. You should be right out there dealing damage and dropping enemies. That's why (I guess) you only get Squad XP for the damage you deal.

No, the mind costs have to come down. Quite a bit. And the success rates have to go up. Considerably.

And then they just have to make the skills useful. Solve those problems and we may be on our way to a Profession that 2-3% of the game would be itnerested in playing as. Heh.

I think I forgot to mention that, I was frequently leading groups of 10+ players (not pets) into battle on Dathomir. We fight biz natches, witches, rancors, you name it.

I_NEED_to use those skills so my guys stay alive longer and know who to target(mind you, I don't need to use those skills, /sysgroup is quite sufficient but I want to give my group an edge), but how can I do that when Rally_would_fail_3_straight_times, and then having a witch aggro me because somehow she sensed I was the weakest one, even tho I'm not at the front of the group?

I'm a pistoneer/smuggler DF tree as well, therefore I_do_need to fight. Frequently I turn around and spot if any of my squadmates are being attacked so I can either low blow or panic shot it. I'm pretty good at what I do and how I lead things, but I just don't like how SL abilities blow goat right now (failure rate too high/HAM cost too much).

I'm not saying, sit back and drink a cup o' spiced tea...

I'm saying, deal damage, but stay back a bit so that you can see the entire "picture". When I take the group that I hang out with to Lok, I'm generally right in the middle of things, but I'm watching the entire area -- waiting for late spawns, errant mobs, etc.

As for your comment Madrox: Han Solo also had a death wish, I don't.

I think the post was about the failure rate and cost of the command, and not about playstyles.

Playstyle is based on player preference. And regardless of what brings you the most enjoyment in gaming, these commands suck.
