Ok, I'm working both solo and group strategy ideas here. I'm trying to figgure out what some of the best proffessions to combine with Squad leader are. I'm also trying to think outside the box, What -partial- professions or singular skill trees or abilities would combine nicely with SL.

SL + Creature handler = Obvious first choice, Gives all your pets bonuses.

-Personally,

SL + Ranger

Please help me think this one through, what template would kick arse as a SL?

-Personally, I just own a bunch of droids. Is there a reason that CH would be better than owning a bunch of droids?

SL + Ranger = Dunno, tracking could be usefull as a leader with the ability to make everyone move at the same speed. Usefull forgroup hunts.Let me know your thoughts.

Please help me think this one through, what template would kick arse as a SL? and why?

seems to me there are a lot of carbineer and pistoleer SL's. I also have some CH and ranger, but am not particularly attached to any of my skills. I like CH becaus eI can have some pretty tough pets tank for me....without them my pansyA**would get beat constantly. Droid just can't do enough damamge for any useful fighting, IMHO.

I'm contemplating adding some of the Ranger skill trees and Commando. I need to reasearch it more but it seems pretty potent in theory.

I was hoping we could come up with something more creative. I guess I'll do some research and post it here. Here's my thoughts as of now:

SL+CH - potent, great soloing- Downside is that there are already a ton of CH. I litterally can't go more than 5 minutes without running into one. Hell I've been some pretty obscure places on Tat and run into one.

SL+Pistolere -or- SL+Carbine-Just seems week to me

SL+Rifleman - *Tested by me* I can Suicide with my rilfeman skills and I can suicide with my SL skills, I can suicide really fast using them both.

SL+CM -or- SL+DocSL+crafting type-I didn't get into SL to be a healer. I want to lead my troops to victory!!!

SL+Melee type - I can't see my troops when my head is buried in a rancor's arse and not that great in PvP

SL+ Commando or SL+BH-I don't know enough about BH or commando to comment. From an RP standpoint, A SL throwning a grenade justfeels right. Both seem pretty potent in theory - I'd love someone elses thoughts on this.

SL + Ranger- Track, Tents with craftin stations - Movement bonuses are kinda nixed by SL skills - I would only persue select trees in ranger as of right now.

I dunno. Hook a brother up. Let me know your thoughts and ideas on this one

Not Cool. My opinions are quite valid. And though I don't owe you an explantion I"ll give you one anyway.

First off, as a Squad leader the only way you will get XP is by getting groups (obvious) and doing damage. This necessitates some combat skill, particularly an advanced one.

Secondly, as a pistoleer I am extremely effective at Warning shot. I have a high speed attack and the specials are low cost. I believe WS is also very effective with Carbines, higher HAM costs, but as a Rifleman, WS is going to be slower and necessitate a minimum distance from the attacking MOB. This would make it more difficult for you to defend your troops, and you will suffer the highest HAM costs, not good if you ever plan on using the SL specials (which will eventually be fixed).

Third, from any sort of RolePlaying standpoint a field commander historically uses small arms as his/her main responsibility is to control the battle. The pistol allows the leader to defend themselves and remain quite mobile during combat.

There are thousands of people playing this game and everyone doingALL of the different skills and combos. If you want to be the most "special" guy out there be a Squad Leader shoe salesman.

As far as other combos go.....

The Ranger/SL combos is sort of cool for me. I like having the awesome camps and the ability to examine the Creatures, but really it's all sleight of hand type stuff and nothing all that helpful to SL. The tracking thing is cool, but I'd rather have a tracker in my group, than be the guy. The traps are pointless and th e scout traps are just as good and easier to make.

I really enjoy having CH and I could care less how many there are. It's great to provide a tank if you're leading n00bs or all ranged types. I like having a pet, I like taming them, I like watching them grow, it just appeals to me. It also helps my squad know who and what we're attacking and provides a timing buff to combat. My pet attack macro is: DESTROY!!!! /accuse. Obviously, Destroy is my word for the pet, but /accuse then adds the emote: Occamz Zryzor points accusingly at a Longhorn Piket. Now everyone knows where to focus. blah blah.

I think that BH and Smuggler seem like cool combos with SL, but I don't know. At this point it's all about how much damage you can do.

I'm hoping that SL will work well with some of the possible future professions and options...i.e. Ship captain. I'd also like to see myself on a creature mount in the heat of battle. That seems REALLY Squad Leaderish to me.

I had to rethink some of my strategy because of a pattern I see repeating itself every night. I find myself playing backup healer in pretty much every group I'm in. This is mainly due to me being very aware of all things in the group, I've kept our CM on his/her feet several times in the last few nights and in some really tight spots the two of us healing has litteraly saved the day.

This leads me to believe that CM or Doc would be a good addition to the SL prof. If only a tree or two. At the very least, we should have enough medical skills to use Stim Bs effectivly enough to keep our main healer alive.

I know most of us chose that chose SL really aren't into playing healers but it really has kept my groups up in some tight spots on Endor and Dathomar.

My charachter is going to hit master Squad Leader someday hehe. But along with that these are the other skills I have and are working on.

Along with that I have climbed up a few trees.

Medic- up to First Aid IV, and II in any of the other trees, I recommend the bonus to timing in healing. It is good to have some healing powers as any class. In solo or in groups it's good to have a way to heal someone, even if you have to wait 5 seconds in between each heal and it's only up to 700 hp's.

Carbineer- all the way up to IV in two of the trees. I recomend the 2nd and fourth tree from left to right. Sorry I forget what names they are. You may also replace this class with any of the other marksman classes such as pistoleer or rifleman.

CH- up to II in training and taming. Being a wookie this allows me to field a Grauler. If you are not a wookie I believe you need taming III or training III. If you want a Graul as a non wookie it is best that you only go up to III in two trees in carbineer. You will still be able to get the special skills of III in carbineer, so it will not hurt your template. This will allow you to get taming or training III.

So far I am very happy with my charachter. Yah I agree with everyone, that SL is lacking however I still feel useful in my group.

With Carbineer I have crippling shot which does decent damage for a support class and soon I will be getting charge shot, which will be good in support for the group because you can knock down your enemies.

Having Creature Handler I don't have to be the one taking the hits. I let my creature go in and take the damage which leaves me free to attack them so taking a little longer then other classes to take something down is not a problem for me.

Medic- As I stated above I feel it is essential to have some healing powers no matter how small in both soloing and in groups.

As Squad Leaders we give bonuses to hit and defend, cure dizziness, stun, and give our group bonuses to both burst run and terrain negotiation. True it sucks up a LOT of mind especially if you are in large groups, but I'm not the type that complains. Gimped or not this is my profession and I don't mind working around such handicaps.

Beyond that you just need the marksman skills and scout skills to get to your classes.

That is my template. I hope it helps you out in choosing the development of your charachter!
