Thread: Sidearms wanted...
Call it vanity or whatever: I really, really like being Squad-Leader! Besides that I have tried or will try a hole lot of other professions (am on the verge of dropping CH and some Ranger-Skills, and I try to find out, whether I like Commando or BH more) and all (or most) of them have special weapon-certifications - what I miss though is something that a SL has just for hisself: I'd like to see a Weapon-Certification for our profession (call it "Sidearms" perhaps). I don't want anything uber - far from it, just a weapon to be recognized as SL. Heck, when I watch movies or look at old pictures I always see the Leader in front with a pistol raised above his head instead of using the rifle that common soldiers is equipped with...

Or better... a waist or thigh holstered pistol (clothing only) wearable by SL only.
Or a Emote action that points at your target.
Perhaps a /returnsalute which is a less crisp quicker salute to return a salute given to you.

The SL exp isdervied primarily from the amount of damage dealt which makes it a combat class. The combat professions all have weapon certifications and I think the SL should have one as well. This probably will not happen despite how the class functions, or the lack of functionality ![]()
I couldn't disagree more.
There are already at least 13 trees of combat professions out there that grant weapon certifications. If you want one of those, it's right there waiting for you. If you want to lead squads, there's squad leader.
You can either choose to use the fact that squad leaders currently gain xp by doing damage while leading a group to mean that we're a combat class and therefore we shouldget out thecookie-cutter and copy one of those other classes, or we could suggest ways to change the way we get xp to match what a squad leader is.
The value that a squad leader brings to his squad should be much more than anything he could do with a single weapon. Otherwise you might as well be a Bounty Hunter or a Commando. Squad leaders are there to lead the squad and improve their performance, not just to be yet another gun. So there's another choice. You can work to convince the devs that we need to be more individually powerful by giving us weapon certs, individual weapon bonuses etc. (just like those 13 other trees do in various ways), or you can work to convince them that SLs need to be more communally powerful.
And you'd end up with a ton of the same SLs. All squad leaders would be Carbineers or Pistoleers or Whatever that weapon was.
I love the idea of exclusive clothes or emotes that befit a Squad Leader (though those shouldn't be restricted to the class.) And heck, I know this worthless class needs a heck of a lot more (Rally hasnt worked for me since the patch.) But I dont think weapon certs are it.
Doesnt have to be a better/faster istol.. just something with a cool look.. maybe a shoulder holster :-)

Disagree all you want but it makes me thinkthat you miss my point. SL exp is derived primarily from damage dealt in combat, but unlike the rest of the combat professions SL's get no weapon certs. The desire of an actual weapon certification for a combat class *Gasp* only adds for a professional identity, which SL's dont have at the moment. If you are worried they might add skills, abilities or a certwill make SL too "powerful" then there's a chef hat waiting for you

I disagree with the weapon idea. What if the SL weapon was, say, a carbine? Wouldn't that raise the ire of all SL/pistoleers and SL/riflemen? Not to mention those stubborn individuals who go SL/Melee. Same if the SL weapon was a pistol or rifle.

You have a valid and valuable argumentation here - but I want a weapon as a sign of distinction and, as has already been mentioned, something that helps us to identify with and adds to the flavor of our profession.
There is a precedence after all: What about Commando? You have to grind Unarmed until the cow comes home and as soon as you hit Novice-Commando you won't need it any longer.
This game as I understand it is basically *not* about an uber-combination of certain professions - it has been made this way by people who chose the BH/CH-combination for example and thus spoiling the roleplaying experience for the rest of us.
I don't want to see just "rational" combinations of professions - and tell me if I am wrong: I presume it is exactly the type of player who choses to excel in these that is the first to quit the game: Bored that he has been everywhere, done everything and wore the t-shirt...
