Thread: A suggestion nobody wants, but at least it would be an improvement...

Everyone here knows that Master Squad Leader is the 3rd most expensive profession and the 3rd least effective in combat (Image Designer and Merchant have no discernable combat value)...
Since we have not seen any real changes to Squad Leader since beta, I just thought of one way to justify Squad Leader that won't require any developer to work overtime to fix it: Remove the Scout Requirement from Squad Leader entirely. ....Yeah, you heard me, NO scout requirement. If you only need ranged weapon support IV to become a Novice Squad Leader, the current SL abilities will be roughly in balance with the rest of the game.
What do we get from Scout anyway?...Terrain Negotiation? Well, Combat Medics get terrain negotiation AND mindheal without any scout requirement. As for "survival"...well, until some sort of fortifications are added, and there are no Squad Leader camp types... Why do we need to waste 33 skillpoints on this?
Granted, some Squad Leaders may CHOOSE to learn Scout, but since it adds no discernable value to the profession as it currently stands...why should we be forced to use up this many skillpoints?!?
Don't get me wrong, I would much rather see a complete revamp of the profession to actually give us a real VALUE...but if that's not happening soon (and, since we've gotten NO developer response, there's no reason to believe otherwise) we might as well get a few skillpoints back to spend on something that actually might HELP us support a squad... Medic or combat skills, for example.

Agreed!
that is the funniest thing i have read on this forum in a long time V, i honestly almost fell out of my chair!
any way about the thread, i disagree i think survival is an importaint skill for any leader to have. but if you want us to have a reason for having survival and camps then please help me support the following idea on this thread:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=squad_leader&message.id=8981
this will give SL the next locigal step form survival and would be a powerful addition to our profession
Omegus, honestly I agree with you.. I'd much rather have a real FIX to our profession than a reduction in the costs, I only brought this up because it is an alternate way to fix the core problem with Squad Leader: Too little skillat too great acost. If we aren't getting more skills, then the cost should be reduced.
Until a fortification or something similar is introduced, there is no need for the Survival tree. Since Combat Medic can have terrain negotiation for free, why shouldn't we (since we don't even get that skill, it's a GROUP bonus, where CM's get it all the time)?? If we don't need exploration or survival, we shouldn't need novice Scout. Again, a squad leader may WANT some of these scouting skills, but there's no need for them to be required when we can just add a Ranger to the group if we feel the need for a scout.
Alternately and preferably, let's get a dev response on the Fortifications idea. Give us an /aimfor skill that allows us to focus the groups fire on a specific HAM pool. Give us a group mind heal command like /motivationalspeech. Give us a mobility bonus that actually helps to keep a group together rather than break us apart (maybe something that averages the fastest and slowest in the group and gets everyone to the same place at the same time) like /forcedmarch. Give us our own mission terminals like the other hybrid combat elite professions.Toss any needed new support skill our direction like /extinguish to make flamethrowers less of a gamemaker/breaker. Give us SOMETHING to make Squad Leader worth 135 skill points...or make Squad Leaders cost less than 135 points.
its not a bad suggestion but i dont think taking something away from our profession is a good idea, even though camps arent officaly part of our profession they are still a useful skill for the leader of a gorup to have.
beside we are the thrid most expensive profession skill, and we can probably use that. when the DEVs get around to fixing us /nockOnWood if we keep bringing up this fact parhaps they will take it into consideration when they begin the revamp and make us worth those skill points
taking skills away or nerfing is never the answer no matter what the subject is.
