Well, okay. That's a lie. I am.
But a squad leader shouldn't be. If they do want to, they can learn CH as well.
I've seen quite a few people suggesting ideas for formations, target acquisition, etc. that involve our specials making other players do things (with their permission).
I don't want to lead with an iron fist, and if I was part of someone else's squad I definitely don't want them playing the game for me.
I feel that /volleyfire has encouraged people to think in this way, and to be honest Idon't want it. If I wanted to control a bunch of other MObs I'd bea creature handler.
What about the carrot method of leadership instead? How about we look at all those 'make squad do...' ideas and with just a little tweak turn them into 'give big benefit if squad does...'
This way we don't take the game away from our squadmates, and at the same time we get something that encourages our squad to listen to what we say.
Here's a few examples:
Formations:
Instead of forcing people to form on us (or somewhere), anyone standing in the desired spot relative to the SL or SL's target gets the bonuses.
e.g.:
- melee charge - anyone within 10m of the target gets bonuses
- form on me- anyone within 20m of the SL gets bonuses
Volley Fire:
Instead of making everyone attack the designated target, anyone who does attack the designated target gets a hefty aim bonus.
If the bonuses are noticable enough, people will quickly realise that listening to the SL will make them much more effective.
