Last night while hunting on Dantooine as a Squad Leader (Former Master currently 0-4-4-4) I started to think about ways to help out the profession. After using Form-Up several times to remove the dizzy effects of the Voritor Hunters, I came up with several ideas that would I think would help out the Squad Leader and make it very much in demand for group hunts and PVP battles.

  1. Something similiar to Form-Up that would remove the other state affects like blind and intimidation.

  2. More passive abilities. Bonus to defense against state affects. Like +20 to defense vs knockdown blind etc etc. Chance to Negate an attack like block/dodge etc.

  3. Passive Damage increase maybe something at Novice and then more at Master

  4. Passive Damage reduction maybe something at Novice and then more at Master

  5. Like the other fella said something the SL can do to remove/limit the effects of Poison/Disease.

Right now it is unnecessary for a group to have a Squad Leader and I think these changes could change that. Just curious what you all think.

Good post.

I like the idea of being able to remove more affects with form-up. Maybe spread out the affects you can cure as you go up the tree. I also like the additional state defenses you mentioned. It is entirely feesible that you could direct your group into a formation that would grant +'s vs. knockdowns, etc. Maybe even group damage mitigation.

Some of the state affects are much more medical in nature, like blindness, poison, and disease. That is Doctor territory. I do think that form-up should remove intimidation.

I agree that blindness can be seen as a Doctor area same as the poison and Disease but I do think that adding the defenses vs all the states would be a very good addition to the Squad Leader.

Maybe having something so the Squad Leader at Master could increase the damage mitigation of the entire group. Say if they have ranged 2 it would be bumped up to ranged 3 and so on. Maybe even adding a ranged 4 if the player already has Ranged 3.

Maybe having something on the opposite end that would increase damage by a percentage as u go up in level of Squad Leader.

There are a lot more passive abilities that could be added to the Squad Leader tree that would make the Squad Leader so much more valuable.

Considering you PvE as a Squad Leader, I am surprised you would dump the Mobility line. It was, IMHO, the most critical one for group use.A number of support and combat professions lack substantial terrain negotiation on their own.

Personally, I think Intimidation belongs in the Rally command, since Intimidate is a morale breaker rather than a mental effect.

I didnt say I wanted to get rid of Mobility =]. I like it. It comes very handy for those professions, as you said, that dont have any terrain negotiation.I think they can combine the two bonuses of terrain and burst into the same boxes and give the other 2 boxes something else.

They can make a whole new special that would remove intimidation and other state affects not just in form-up.

Could be and I so hope it will be. I am making a new template for PvP and I am not dropping SL why? because I like the concept. ><

I personally think two good abilities would be:

- Increase Experience Line (with Master at, 33%? Dunno)

- Share Waypoints ability.. activates a waypoint on your squadmates' HUDs.

Just two for starters.

The more I've thought about increased xp the more I don't like it. At server startup it would be awesome when everyone ispretty much in the same boat. Now it seems like it would be one more feather in the cap of the AFK SL-Bot. Group defense and xp bump so you can grind a new PA toon? Just doesn't seem to help the game any.

It'svery frustrating to explain to people why theySHOULD join my group...and I shouldn't have to practically beg them lol...the added bonus, etc, even if they want to solo some things make it beneficial...

This could be such a cool profession...

Just do what I did, bring along a TKM, group up with yourself as leader, have the TKM duel then dizzy/kd the doubters, and form them up. I did this with my guild now I don't even have to ask to be made group leader, it's always, "Quick there's Farky, get him into the group."

It would definitly be nice if we were able to cure even intimidation though, but I think once the defence cap comes into play we'll be seeing more Squad Leaders, people will want that extra bonus they get from someone else's abilities.

That is the biggest reason, period. I'm trying to do a SL atm...it sucks because nobody wants to group, because they don't need to group. AND/OR, they're so afraid that you'll eek away even 1% of their precious XP on a kill.

To counter the AFK-SL bots, you could always peg the xp bonus based on whether the Squad Leader actually damaged the target, whether by poison, or weapon or a punch/kick.

Here is the question though...how well does mitigation actually work?

If mitigation works to well, giving +1 mitigation to Ranged and Melee might be to powerful, if it doesn't do anything and matter, than neither will SL's giving a bonus level(s). This is a razor's edge that needs to be walked, too powerful not powerful enough.

As for funky bonuses like KD, Intimidation, ect. There are reasons why some classes have no defences at all against these and raw base defences (Melee and Ranged) and vice versa. Giving them out as passive bonuses would cheapen those other classes, even if we only have them if we are grouped. If we get anything like this, make them abilities that last a certain length of time or act like /Form-up and clean them up after the fact.
