I've read a bit about the new SL skills, and I'm not very impressed. I agree with the majority of everyone posting here, stating thatthey encourage AFK squaddies, and that they dont offerany real, or new advantages.

Instead of (or in addition to {?}) new "Active abilities" I'm in favor of more "Passive abilities". the "Passive abilities" that we arleady get are nice, such as the Group Terrain Negotiation. Most people in this forum believe that these are the only skills worth getting as SL right now. When I think of "Squad Leader" I think of somebody to whom everybody else looks up to for leadership and support.

Leadership itself, isn't something that you can program into the game. There are abilities that assist with leadership, but when its all said and done, leadership comes from the human player that the group looks to for guidance.

Support however, is a different story altogether inside a virtual realm. It can come in the form of gaming code. I'm talking about "Passive abilities" here. I think enhancements need to be made to help the SL assist others in battle. I like the ideas about HAM regen rates increased, but I also think that more of the passive bonuses would be nice. For instance, Group Weapon Accuracy Increases.. Group Weapon Rate of Fire Increases.. Group Accuracy While Moving Increases.. you get the idea..

On the side.. I'm also in favor of making the /sysgroup command function a bit differently.. I'd like to see the default color of the message be changed. It would be nice ifyou could "Easily" distinguish the group messages, between messages for experience, faction, and other system related messages. It would also be nice if the /sysgroup message made a slight noise, for instance when you receive a tell, it *beep*'s at you..

Just my thoughts..

Just another thought on Volley Fire.. I hear its pretty useless, since it makes everyone attack using their basic attack...

The argument is that why should everyone execute a basicattack, when if coordinated correctly, the damage of all the squaddie's special attacks combined just once, equals that of about 4 or 5 volley fires (basic attacks)..

It would be nice if it gave a HAM free, bonus to damage done by thesquaddies basic attack...

For instance, to keep things simple, i'll say that my basic attack hits for 500... now the(new) volley fire would increase my attack damage say...75%.. which equates to an attack that hits for 875 instead.. this would be slightly weaker than a special attack, but still stronger than a normal attack.. and it would be HAM free for the squadmates.. (except for the SL who summoned the volley in the first place)

Any thoughts??

Guan , mate you hit the nail on the head .

passive bonuses are the way to go with the squad leader, defence both melee and ranged combined with a rate of fire tree and a accuracy of fire and or aaverage weapon damage increasetree would be a sensible change provided of course they worked as intended

Lets not forget that the squad leader profession is not a main but a Support Role to compliment a fighting profession tree, so making a SL use his hams to "Buff" is a very cruel situation, after all, he/she allready has demands on his Ham bar to use his weapon specials and of course to stay alive.

The idea of the faster run rate for the group is not bad but i think they have chosen the wrong alternative, I think that that the faster run rate should drop when someone in the group "initiates" combat.

Having to drop out of the faster run rateevery time someone in a large group picks up aggro from a mob is not the best solution.

Just a quick comment on the formations.

Formations are largely useless unless you have player collision combined with some pretty sophisticated line of sight coding.

Thanks Hosteen.

As far as formations go, I'm not a big fan of those either, for the simple fact that maneuvering around lairs, and aggressive mobs is difficult enough with my squaddies (usually) running with different latencies as is.

Lets say I am using a formation with my squad. I'll use the wedge formation, its pretty generic, and most people know what it is (Generally characterized as looking like a big 'V' with the SL at point). Running around in this formation would prove to bemuch moretedious since I would essentially be moving a bigger group around, as opposed to if my group was in the (now default style) snake formation.

Just a thought..

You can do this manually.

Right, I know that the colors can be changed manually.. however.. This would require every single person who joins the group of the SL to change the /sysgroup color right?..

ATM - the "Default" /sysgroup msg color is plain white, just like the rest of the system messages.. which sometimes causes the SL's messages to get missed.. I know, I could just use all-caps group tells.. but then that would prove that the /sysgroup command really is just a novelty.. I like using it for its intended purpose tho.. *shrug* and I think that it does make a difference.

I think that it would be more helpful rather than requiring everyone to make the color change themselves, to just make the "Default" color something else.. like red.. and it really does need to ~Beep~

To those who want to control sys message colors, you can do it completely on your end, without having the group members change their settings. Here is how:

do it by placing a color code right into your sys command. i.e.:

/sys \#ff0000\ melee fighters fall back!

this will change your sys message color on EVERYONE's screen who sees it to ff0000 (i think this is red). I don't have the chart of what the hex color codes are here at work, so you'll have to find it yourself. If you want to make this very simple, you can do alias commands for colors you want to use quickly:

/alias /rr /sys\#ff0000\

this will make "/rr" your code for a red sys message. Then you just type /rr and the text you want to send to your group. You could alter the color code (the #ff0000) for any color you want. So you could use /rr for red message, /gg for green message, /bb for blue message, etc.

Cool tip.

As noted elsewhere:

/alias /rr /sys\#ff0000\ will result in an alias: "//rr".

/alias rr /sys\#ff0000\ will result in an alias: "/rr"

You can type /alias by itself, I believe, to see your full list of aliases, if something goes amiss.

You can clear an alias by typing /unalias <your_bad_alias>

Correct me if I'm wrong, someone.
