Get a pet and solo for a while...don't do this with a bot since bots perma die now. You won't rake in SL xp, but for the first tier boxes you can make reasonable xp. Get the first tier box for terrain negotiation and maybe the melee defense and /rally boxes. These are the only things that have any positive effect on groups.

Go to a popular hunting spot and look for a group to join. Generally, with a little effort, you can find a group that will let you have the lead spot. It helps to make it clear that you only want the lead spot for the xp...don't abuse your position as leader, use it to help the true leader run the group (i.e. repeat things he says on /sysgroup if people aren't paying attention). Be careful not to annoy people with /sysgroup.

Make some friends to regularly group withwho aren't power gamers...SLs seem to mostly be enjoyed by roleplayers at this point.

Once you have a reputation as someone who doesn't hurt a group, you'll have less trouble getting a group that'll let you lead.

Don't pay any attention to SL xp and be happily surprised when you have completed a box. It's not like gaining an SL skill really is going to make any difference to your groups anyway...

lol poor you

here are some tips

1: Go on Lok and try to start a group... youll get alot of people and youll do max of XP... people are on LOK only to do missions

2: get a pet and make it group with you... youll get SL XP since youll be the squad leader of your group

3: Under CTRL-P --- status --- use your Squad Leader TAG... people will wanna try to group with you more

4: Join a group then ask the leader to do a /makeleader on you... youll become the squad leader and use /sys to show that you are ready to take your job seriously

Good luck

Go to Fort Tusken on tatooine (roughly -4000 6000). You can easily talk a group into letting you have leadership if they don't have an SL already.

I hit master squad leader in a little over a week there.

BTW the Im a passive leader deal doesnt work, it never does. Sure it may be what happens at first but the Squad Leader tag automatically makes you the leader, because nobody ever wants to lead. So it falls into your lap every time.

Not to mention new recruits to the groups always send me private tells asking what we are doing even when Im trying to chill like everyone else. So eventually you have 20 morons zerging everything in the world while you try to maintain order keep the dumbasses from getting slain etc.....I really dredd joining groups in LOK because there are these trigger happy, greedy, foolish, moo moo's who always shout KIMO KIMO!! And run around aggroing every mob we have in radar range, and then they complain about having over half their HAM black barred,,,,,,,,sorry just got through with one of these groups...I am burned out.

Why would anyone who doesn't naturally lead groups want to be a squad leader?

I have NO problems getting a group togethor. I log on, people send me tells "what are we hunting tonight?"

Then again, i've been leading hunts since day two... and was not a beta player. It helps to RP, cuz people then get to know your personality. Get a group going on a regular basis, then pick up the SL class to enhance what you have already been doing.

The SL class currently sucks. However, once they fix it, it will be a true asset to a group. However, no one is going to follow someone with no leadership skills.

Imagine someone jumping up and down in bestine, screaming "I'm a squad leader! Bow before me, beg to join my group! Maybe I'll let you join me!"

Not going to work.

However, any scout, marksmen or doc can make a great group leader, if you are fair, organized, and have a good capacity for leadership. Share harvests, be clear with your groups what you targets are, share the lair exp, and make grouping with you fun. THEN become a SL to enhance the ability of your groups. It doesn't work the other way around.

The dev team would never allow any kind of imbalance so that one group of people would "cut swaths" through crowds of people.
