Thread: Covert Squad leaders in PvP battles

Has anyone ever partcipated in a large scale PvP encounter as a squad leader, but remained covert during the battle? Can this be done? You sit down in a ranger camp near the battlefield, use areatrack to keep intelligence information coming in, Sysgroup to inform people of tactics, and just keep rallying etc. It may not seem like a terribly fun way of doing things, but it could be effective. Its a way for squad leaders, with limited combat skills themselves, to help a group. In a big mob (15-20) keeping the squad leader alive and functioning may be more important than having that one extra gun.

It may seem cheesy, but if anyone asks why you dont go overt just say "Im not here, im at myHQ, this is a holo projection of me".

Ideas? Flames? Obvious problems? Please fire away.

I've done this a few times, yea. From what I remember, /steadyaim will give you a TEF, so you're not invincible. But you can use /formup, and I believe /rally, with no problems.

i was in a battle last night and actually paid particular attention to this......even mentioned what im about to say on Ventrilo to all the rebels who were there.

Ive noticed it before but liek i said, i was watching it pretty carefulyl last night.

There was a covert or perhaps even neutral SL shouting out Formup, Steady Aim , and Retreat commands and he receive dno TEF off of it.

I know one guild in particular tends to use this tactic a lot.

In MY opinion...i feel this needs to stop. Your basically giving abuff to an entire group, and you can not get targetted for it. That is ridiculous. Doctors get a TEF for buffing and healing. SL's should DEFINATELY egt a TEF for using commands.

I would even go as far as to say That Neutral SL's should not be able to grant bonuses to overt members of either faction...or that they receive a TEF for doing so as a covert would.

Call it anerf if you want but it needs to eb done.....if the enemy has a leader calling otu commands, etc you ARE going to shoot him and not just let him stand there hunky-dory and continue as is.

I'm with PanzerGR on this one.

If you can buff a group in any way, you should get a TEF. You're a participant. While I admire those who are looking carefully at game mechanisms and utilitzing them to maxium tactical advantage, in this case the devs need to step in and fix this game mechanism so that it's in line with a CM getting a TEF for tossing an area heal and healing an overt or TEFd player.

I agree. It would make sense if covert/netural SL could only affect non-overt squadmates without getting a TEF. On the other hand overt SL should be able to affect all squadmates.

Definitely something we should make sure gets taken care of with the revamp.

I definantly believe it should give TEF to use group commands. Then again I'm always overt while PvPing...Then again my guild and I believe its taboo to be covert while PvPing at all.

I've gotten a TEF using rally and pretty sure steady aim before.

No idea what happenswhen a neutral player uses them though. They shouldn't be allowed to use them on overt / tef faction members if they can.

Name: Eva

You forget that SL commands can be used on a squad over 1000m away from were the squad is fighting. I have tested this an it seams it will go much even more then just that. I have been told from some group members that the SL ablities reached out to even 3k meters out from were the SL sat.

Dunno, but from time to time it happens that my group gets attacked while i am still covert in the cantina, buffing.

Whenever i use ANY of my abilitis in that state, i get a TEF. Every single time. I do not mind, i think it should be that way and the time i spent online covert is miniscule anyway, but i dont know why this SL PanzerGR mentioned did not get a TEF. Sounds like a Bug.

Hmm, I've never had any active abilities work outside of radar range.

Passive probably would, but people outside of like 64m ish did not get the effects of rally.
