Thread: Group Waypoint on Test Center

Just noticed it today, haven't been on TC in about a week. But now when grouped as a group leader, you see a "Group Waypoint" on your screen. It's only when grouped, but since I'm grouped with my droid and not a SL yet (damn Survival tree) on TC, it seems to be a group leader thing only, being a SL doesn't seem to matter. Don't know if they're testing this for SL or just for group leader as yet.. Of course now that I decided to post it it's gone, probably cause I disbanded the group to see if it goes away and it did. Has anyone else noticed this on TC?

Hate to reply to my own post, but it seems that the Group Waypoint shows up if you're the group leader and finished a mission. I had 2 missions, grouped with my droid, after I finished my first mission, the second mission waypoint showed up as a "Group Waypoint" in yellow, same direction and distance as the second mission. I have the "On screen Waypoint Monitor" up so I can see the names. If it's already been posted, I'm really behind in reading the forums..... Otherwise, can someone tell us if it's the next closest mission that shows up, or just the next random mission? I have to find a player to group with on TC to find out...

Hmm. This group waypoint thing is something we have been screaming for since launch, so I think I'm happy. I'm not sure what to make of what you reportyet except to say:

A) Nice of them to stealth this in with no notification to our community?

B) If this is available to any old group leader, and is not an SL-exclusive feature I think I'm a little bent.

I imagine now that we have a correspondent the information stream will widen up a little. I'll defer to Irott on that. In the meantime please do investigate further. Thanks for playing on Test Center, BTW. I found it rather painful last time I tried (back before the Player City patch).

OK I finally confirmed it.. trying to find someone to group with you on TC this late is a pain.. Anyway here's what I found.

Once there is a group, and the first mission is completed, after a few seconds (about 10), all group members see a waypoint called "Group Waypoint" in yellow. It is the waypoint to the next closest mission. If the mission "jumps" the "Group Waypoint" does not jump as well, it still points to the old location. Once the missionreferenced by the "Group Waypoint" is completed, the Group waypoint disappears, only to be replaced a few seconds later by a new group waypoint pointing to the next closest mission. This is only after you complete the first mission! It does not automatically point to the first closest mission, only he subsequent ones. And all group members see the waypoint not just the group leader.

I tried this for a total of 4 missions, after the first mission was completed, the next 3 missions had the group waypoint arrow. Only one of the "jumped" and the group waypoint did not jump with it.

Currently on TC the group leader does NOT have to be a Squad Leader for this to show up for everyone.

I hope others can confirm this as well. I'll see what being a SL adds to this in a few days.. once I become one on TC that is..

Thanks for the info Mavhawk. I would hope that the "jumped" waypoint would update the grouped waypoint before this goes live.

This is an awesome feature, but I'd really like to see this as Squad Leader feature only.

And I agree with the whole needing to jump with the waypoint aspect. And maybe start with the first mission, too.

Where I see a problem with this, though, is solo groups. You'll end up seeing other people's missions after the first person in the group has completed theirs (not really a Squad Leader problem though).

  • Goggles: Using the /seGoggles command will return your Special Edition Goggles if they were lost.
  • Groups: When in a group, a waypoint to the nearest group mission is displayed. The nearest mission is the mission closest to the most people in the group.
  • Groups: Group member status bars will continue to report position information, even if the player is on the other side of the world. If the group member is on another planet, the planet name is displayed in the status bar.
  • Shadows: Fixed rendering issues with simple shadows at low angles.
  • UI: Radar dots should "flicker" much less.
  • UI: Overhead map now tries to space out text.

Please post any issues that you find with these items in this thread.

Thanks!

I "think" the Group Waypoint has been in the game for ages but it was bugged, so in a way they didn't need to inform you guys because all they were doing was fixing a year old bug and not adding anything new.

I'll probably be in the minority here but the two new waypoint monitors, the arrows pointing towards group members and the group mission waypoint, are too damn good to be SL exclusive.

I mentioned the groupwaypoint in the Top 5 sticky thread earlier. It is not a SL thing, it was something that was supposed to be in game from the beginning but didn't quite work. Although it was active for a very short while in beta.
And as of last night it is working fine, so when a persons mission, currently displayed on the groupwaypoint, updates for that group member it is updated on the groupwaypoint too, so you don't need to figure out before hand whos mission it is in case you have to follow the group member if groupwaypoint does not update. A group of 3 of us with 2 missions each tried it and we only had to follow the groupwaypoint, and I was the leader of the group but I was not using my master Squad Leader toon at the time.

I don't think it should be SL exclusive, just SL-group exclusive. As in the SL isn't the only one to get the WP, you just need the SL in the group. Gives more of a purpose to a profession that doesn't give a whole lot of bonuses. And really it makes sense.

I don't have a problem with the closest mission being seen by everyone as a group waypoint for all groups. It's not the most efficient way to run missions however. I would like to see us get the ability to see everyone's active waypoints, and give us the ability to show everyone else in the group a waypoint we choose. This way we can choose the order in which we do the missions, or set up a meeting spot for everyone. That part should definately be Squad Leader exclusive.
