Thread: Do you think SL will be used in SE?

As far as I can tell the Devs will be giving us a seperate set of SP's for the SE. Do you think that a SL type class will be available for the SE. i.e.Wing Commander or Tactician.

I think it's already been posted somewhere that the four new classes in SWG:JTL will be:


  • Basic Pilot

  • Alliance Pilot

  • Imperial Pilot

  • Shipwright

So it doesn't look like there will be a "space-only" equivalent version of the Squad Leader. It might be that they plan to apply current SL group bonuses, etc., tospace combat - but I'd be more interested in seeing them fix all of what's broken with the ground-pounding aspects of our profession before opening that can o' worms.

It would make sense that squad leaders and smugglers are to be useful in space. They already have the YT 1300 so hopefully since they delayed smuggler they are reworking the profession to have a robust smuggling system that should tie into space somehow.


For squad leaders of course, i would say rally would work in space adding a better hit percentage and defensive bonus applied to your group. Maybe bonuses be applied to the existing pilot skill mods. Ever since I watched the last episode where Wedge (Red Leader) and Lando destroyed the second death star, I always thought how cool it would be to lead a squad of Awing fighters against an Imperial Star Destroyer, live and laugh over a jawa beer about it.

I really hope that when Squad Leaders are groups leaders is Space they will act as a Wing Commanders and give Space effective fighting bonuses. Some of the Existing SL abilities should still work, like steady aim could easily be modified to still be used in Space.


I for one will be very disapointed if our profession is not working in Space.

  • I heard more like this. Also, theysay that the piloting skills will not complement each other. So being a master indendent and master imperial pilot will only give the benifit of getting the certs for imperial craft and independent craft. And its not known if you will be able to have enough SE SP to do this.

    Combat in the SE will be twitch baised. So steady aim wont really have a valid effect. The player has to line up the shots.

    Well


    One of the producers has stated that they would LIKE to put in player controlled capital ships at a later date.....once they figur eout how to meld it and get it to work with the system.


    I would have a suspicion that they migth ive SL's or have an "Sl-Like" profession in the SE to affect crews for large vessels

    Yes, but there will also be gunnery skills in the pilot skilltrees to help the player hit enemies. The higher gunnery skill the less "exact" the players aim has to be. Steady aim could improve these skills for say the next 5 sec after the steady aim command is given.

    Since it is twitch based, none of the defense or offense bonuses would have any effect with your ship.


    Also, there are no Skill Points in SE, you get boxes by doing missions and such they said.

    Since it will be twitch based, most of the curent commands won't have any bonuses.


    Although the /sysmessage should still work.


    Then again, there might be new benefits for a SL come JTL.

    No, i want pure combat, i dont wanna have to sit in a capital ship, i wanna be "gold leader" flying my x-wing or b-wing, or y-wing



    also, i think that some commands could work, and some passive defensive and offensive bonus's could work, the defensive should make your ship have increased shields, and our offensive could be like a faster firing, or more powerful weapons

    Im sure they want just get the flight/world engine running first.


    The should be working on space/ground interaction later.
