How far does a group member have to be from the leader in order to get group xp when they kill something?

There is no hard number. As long as their status (HAM) appears in your group list, you'll get XP from them. This is usually around 150m, but can occasionally get as high as 300 or 400meters.

I was heading from the Geo Caves to the Labor outpost on Yavin the other day, I was about 4km from my group yet somehow I was still getting xp from them. Their names were still on my radar, too. I assume this was a bug, though, because it hadn't happened before and hadn't happened since.

yeah the xp system is still buggy with squad leader but for the most part you only get xp as leader and when the group people do not have the (out of range) thing next to their name

It used to be easy to tell when you would get XP......what do we do now that the range has been increaed to infinity on our group list?
