Thread: Look into my brain

Fellow SLs,

I've posted things here and there and voiced my opinions on different ideas that people have come up with in a variety of threads. Now, in order to keep things straight in my own head, I would like to submit for your review, all the things I have thought of or advocated.

1. Recon. By unequipping a weapon and equiping a pair of binoculars (or whatever you call them in SW), the SL disappears from Radar. He may then approach enemy positions, no closer than 30m) in order to perform a recon of number of enemy and fortifications, etc. Included with this could be a more detailed /examine feature that would tell him what type of weapon the target is equipped with and for PvP, what professions the player has. This way he can select his targets. (i.e. Kill the Medic!!!).

2. Group Weapon: I support the call for a crew served weapon that the SL can place but others operate (E-web?). I do not thing the SL should have his own special weapon. This would make him a commando and if the SL is looking down the barrel of his own gun, then he is not looking around and keeping the big picture on what is going on. http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=squad_leader&message.id=10384

3. Position selection: While this would be code heavy, the ability to assign specific positions to members of the group and thus give them special abilities would significantly enhance the group dynamics. http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=squad_leader&message.id=10465

4. Airlift: Allow the SL the ability to place his group on a shuttle and drop them off anywhere on the map. Recent idea that just posted on that thread, was to have a Ranger build the DZ and call in when ready (i.e. make the high-tech field base be the drop off point). The SL would also have the ability to call in an evac, and pull people out to the nearest city.

5. fortifications: What more can be said other than: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=squad_leader&message.id=10609. Fortifications are a great idea.

6. /aimfor: This command allows the SL to direct the fire of the group toward a specific HAM bar, regardless of the weapons being used. This reinforces my belief that "knowledge is power" and the SL should have commands and abilities that reflect having greater knowledge in the combat craft. i.e. knowing where to hit something.

That is the extent of my ideas or others ideas that I strongly support. I didn't touch on what skill tree these should fall under nor did I talk about passive buffs because quite frankly I dont' understandthe formula and a +10 in something doesnt' mean anything to me. Having a button I can press and see an effect, that means something to me. That is noticed by my groups and that is how we will get the attention of other players and become valuable to them.

Not all of these ideas are my own and if I failed to hyperlink the idea to the orginal author, my apologies. I am not trying to take credit for anything but simply consolidate some of the better ideas I have seen.

I invite your comments/discussion.

I have a question:

When you are leading a squad, what are you doing?

If you are like me, and any other SLs Ive seen work, you use your gun, be it a rifle or a pistol or a carbeen or whatever.

If you cannot manage shooting andusing /steadyaim at the same time, you need some practice. Are you giving 100% of your skills to your squad if you are not shooting? Manage both, and your squad will appriciate it.

Personally, I've been getting into the fight, when my HAM really can't afford to. (unless buffed)

I'm trying to stay back, not get involved, and use my team enhancing specials more. Unfortunately it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who the Squad Leader is, and I become a prime target. Being a Squad Leader sucks too much HAM.

How about remote turrets that are immobile. SL can place them and then call attacks just like you would with your pet however, if it needs to be moved... the SL actually has to pick it up and move it. Just treat it like a pet with only the attack command only. Also allow them to place it regardless of location.
