Thread: What about placing walls (not bunkers)

One thing I thought was fun about the Tactician in AC2 was the ability to place walls. These walls had hitpoints and could be torn down as well as being on a fairly shorttimer (2 min. as I recall). You could also only place a2 or 3 of them at a time (mostly because of construction time eating awaythe timetaking a good portion of the duration of previously built walls).Players could pass right through them but creatures were blocked. This provided a lot of organization and planning from tactiticians to set up defenses before a fight, maintain those and try to provide some "structure" to an otherwise hectic scene.

Personally, I found it a lot of fun. Hoping you placed them correctly so that you didnt leave a crack for someone to go through. Trying to keep people organized enough so that they dont train mobs around your defenses. I can see it now... squad leaders laying down a line of sandbags or wire to keep the enemy at bay. The combat medics making dashes out from behind to pull in wounded commandos, pistoleers and brawlers to be mended by the field surgeons.

This would be fluid. It wouldn't be fire and forget. It wouldn't upset the pvp scene (players are smart enough not to charge a wall they can't pass through). It would keep squad leaders constantly working on planning and organization of the group efforts to some level instead of them sitting there just shooting a weapon like everyone else.

Or is this not good because its using an idea from another game? Any thoughts?

I like the idea. Being a squad leader is interesting. Half the time, I'm running around with my head cut off trying to do three more tasks than I have the time to do, the other half of the time, I'm cranking on my "stoppinig" shot over and over and over and over with nothing else to do but stare blankly at my monitor....and then realizing that the reason the creature isn't dead yet is because I have my Huurton, which I had just healed, targeted still. Suddenly, I have three more tasks than I have the time to do on my agenda again, and I have to bank up a few more stopping shots before I can go revive an incapped companion.

I guess the rule of thumb that I follow is this: as a squad leader, if I'm standing in combat with nothing to do except hit stopping shot after stopping shot after stopping shot, then the chances are good that I'm not doing my job.

Again, I like your idea. It would be a fine addition to perhaps a different profession; have some bunker builders or perhaps some npc's to do the dirty work. It would be a great thrill, and has some serious potential.

How do you improve the entire game, and one of the more useless professions at the same time? Well this is a start: Help Support the http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=squad_leader&message.id=10609>Fortification Proposal

I like the idea of only a master squad leader having the ability to place walls in a player city, just as you'd need a master chef, to place a cantina sort of thing. I'd like it a lot more if I'd be able to protect my city from imperial onslaught, or corner a guy in my city, rather than him having the chance to run out.

/sigh

If I had a cred for every time I did that.

I like the idea, especially coupled with bunkers.
