OK, I just opened my first holo and it told me squad leader. I can accept that and I am not complaining. What I want to know is, is this a fun class and will it be something I would consider coming back to after I hopefully open my slots. I have seen some negative comments in this board and wanted to know if anyone had any positive thoughts on the matter.

I enjoy it. Some things could use improvement. It looks like there'll be more around for a while, due to the stupid holo's. But I'm sure that after the powergamers get bored with jedi, they will hopefully quit.

P.S. I am not saying that you or those who desire the force slot are all powergamers. I think however, for many, It's a matter of boredom with normal profs. In time they will also bore with jedi. And the quicker the better in my opinion. You just can't count on anyone to settle into a role in this game, and it's frustrating.

Being the leader ofa squad is fun. It's debateable whether being a Squad Leader is fun, though.

The question is this: Do you enjoy being looked up to and looked upon for answers, directions, and organization? Can you give orders under pressure and most of all, do you like organizing missions, and dealing with people?

If yes, then cool. You'll love it. It's a commitment, being leader. And quite a selfless profession.

I think it is fun, but the profession is broken to hell. No one ever checks this board either. I could probably brake 1/2 the board rules here and never get caught.

Again, Let me bring up the quote:

Being a Squad Leader doesn't enhance our gameplay. It defines it.

fun... fun... who has fun in this game! shoot them!

seriously, the best part about being a squad leader is being called upon to go on faction base raids. you get people that say: "i heard you were the best. i need your help." you show up and they all /cheer for you, and if its a good group you get a personal bodyguard who's sole purpose on the raid is make sure you don't die. you are also the last one to set the terminal so essentially, you set the fuses to explode. the rest of my squad leader experience tends to be focused on krayt or kimo hunts and those usually degrade into loot fights.

Squad Leader is the most fun I have had in this game in THREE MONTHS of game-play! Holy cow! When I led my first hunting group, I managed to get 20 players and half had pets!

What you have to keep in mind with a group that large is that they need encouragement! I recommend saying what a good job they do when they complete a mission. Then - RUNNING to heal an incap member of the group helps boost moral like you wouldn't believe.

I am only 0-0-0-2 medic but I can at least get players out of incap. Then I direct them to the doctors. I also set up a camp after every mission (unless they are so close together or everyone is ready to go).

Another important thing to do is BE STRICT. I have found that using the /sys command is great and even better the more you use it. Especially with the /#rrggbb/ colors. When a detactment of the group gets distracted, I yell at them to stay focused and basically order them back to base camp.

What I do then is send a tell to each of the distracted members - and assuming they get to the camp, I say something to the effect that "it is easy to get distracted in this game"

The MOST effective thing you can do I have found is when someone calls for help, when you go up and lure the attacking creature away - even if you incap because if it - it will have been worth it. I do that whenever I get the chance and the players know I will do it too - and they seem to respect me more for it.

After about an hour of leading my first group, I had most members calling me "sir!" and when we came to a pack of creatures to kill they would listen as I called out which animals to kill and in what order. We blazed through the dewbacks and squills like you wouldn't believe and it was the most incredible feeling to be the LEADER of such a group.

So the moral of the story is this: 1) Be a LEADER, 2) Be STRICT, 3) Be SYMPATHETIC, 4) and lastly, realize that it is a GAME (I have to tell myself this as I tend to get extremely involved when I lead squads.

OK this is long enough, but one last thing. 5) a squad leader should LOOK GOOD. I have spend nearly 100k on CLOTHES alone for this profession since it doesn't require much inthe way of other materials like droid engineer or combat medic. The only materials I burn through is bone and hide for camps.

cheers!

I'm with Yurri. I tried mastering BH, its just moooooore shooting except for investigation, which is shooting on a mission. I tried commando, I only liked the heavy weapons

Then I decided to try Squad Leader... its a new experiance. Masterd it in two weeks, and while the faliure rates and the HAM costs are high, I'm lovin it.

My answer to your question would be, do you want to lead people by heart. I like the leadership, and wouldn't think of not being SL, but as for the actuall skills as a SL, well I can only say its disappointing. I only use system message and formup commands, and on some rare occations, when high on drugs, I tend to try rally.
