Thread: Squad Leader Hybrids
I'm a brand new SL and I'm interested to know what a few tried and true combos are. I left the commando profession, so you can say that I've been a grunt. I'm having a hard time deciding which weapon would fit into my play style and the SL profession the best.
A pistol: Have to get in close for effective combat. A rifle: Limits my effectiveness up close. TK: Only useful up close. Combat Med: Limits other combat (weapon) abilities.
I think that a SL should have a well rounded mix of skills...stand back and watch the feild, while engaging, yet be able to charge in and engage by the side of his troops.
Any suggestions or variations that have been tried. I really want to get that SL feel, but I want to be able to hold my own as well.

Sounds like carbine would be good for you.

Carbine is the weapon that I felt best fit into my role as well, yet it is the one that I feared the most...
Pistol is by far the best weapon for a squad leader.....i care not what anyone else here tells you.
I was a pistoleer/master marksman/ SL (now slowly dropping pistoleer and soem marksman to pick up swordsman) and it worked out quite well.
Pistol whip is great if an enemy gets in close. It is also the fastest weapon if u need to lay down multiple supression fires.
Fanshot will help mow down large numbers of enemies to the front and stopping shot provides a very powerful blast.
Bodyshot 3 was recently increased so its more effective than bodyshot2 now, plus you have health bleeds. In my experience MOST groups will lower the health HAM of a creature far far faster than any other part of a creatures HAM.
you can attack from range or get in close..i RARELY EVER missed even at distances of 60m with a pistol. It fires so fast it doesnt matter if you miss anyways.
if you truly want an effective combat proff for squad leader HONESTLY take pistoleer.....it ALSO has FAR betetr defenses than carbineer's could ever hope for and a much broader range of effective weaponry.
Yeah... but a pistol is the better weapon in almost every case. But I started dropping pistoleer because its just a "get in there and fight" weapon. With carbine I can do suppression shots or KD shots that will let my group do more damage. Plus I can do stun and blind effects which helps my team as well.
My current template though... MSL, Master Carbineer (in progress), and Pistol Tech IV.
The Pistol Tech line gives you almost everything you need out of pistols. And the Defenses it gives are sweet.
So I use carbine as a support weapon, But if a mob gets too close I pull out my pistol.

Pistoleer - Rank 4 Pistol Grips and Holds(Dodge tree) , Pistol Axccuracy rank 4
= Really , really, really fast, with specials to target, and you dodge everything coming at you like mad. In other words Auad Leader who is combat effective, and you get a scatter pistol to boot.
This is where im going with myself eventually. I think it will be very cool.
