I will be commenting on this thread as it pertains to NPCs and the SL.

First of all, this is a online game. Not one of you guys /ever/ mentioned the best exsample of playing a military leader in a combat online game, all I hear is the DAoC crap. Play WWIIOnline, find out how hard it is to get 5 guys to crew a **edit** tank together, at the same time, with no voice communication.

I don't want to hear elitist talk about barking orders in the middle of a 12 man squad. You get 13 guys together, hey, have a party and congratulations if you can do it more than once a week. Second of all, any medic with half a brain is watching the HAM bars to see who is getting hammered and who isn't. Third of all, if you have done SL for any real amount of time, there are only 2 things you bother yelling, and that is Rally and Form Up. Fourth, who even bothers with sys when you can use Group chat. Fifth, SWG can add in Voice communication usable only with group chat. Communication is huge in a text based game. Everything else is trash. +10 for Volley Shot...they can get bent. Then there is nothing like calling for Rally 8 times before it actually workseither. As for Muon, please...I have 1k Mind and I suck down Fishak and every mind boost food I can and /then/ pop Muon only when I am buffed to the gills and don't want to die /and/ think I will be the last one standing in 5 minutes. Oh, andto put on my armor.

Lets face it, you will be on at times when others will not be on that you run with. You need creatures... troopers... to give you the benifits for SL. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING makes me more sick than to see some guy running around with a couple of freaking Rancors/Grauls/Killa-whatever-the-name-is and me and my ST medic. Well guess what kids...that Rancor still has Heavy armor and can attack /ANYTHING/ it wants, faction or critter. My AT-ST on the other hand? Got castrated to medium armor and watches me get hammered by that Rancor. Might, just might come to my aid, but won't attack it outright.

SCREW THAT.

One Faction follower? Not good enough. You a neutral? Better make sure you join a guild or SWG gets off their butt and make actual recruitable neutral faction followers. Oh like it wouldn't that bethat hard...like I give a rat's ass about Borvo Faction...if I have it, make it worthwhile.

Here is my 2 cents-

1) Number of followers is equal to Rank+SL rank in Faction points.

That is it, pretty **edit** simple. Your a private, you get 100-200 fpts worth of followers. Split it up any way you want...let people actually buy those worthless 100pt troopers. Higher in rank and higher in SL means you can have more points. Have one or two expensive toys, or a million crappy ones, AS LONG AS IT ENDS UP BEING EQUAL.

God, it isn't a hard concept. Play any point based game and you can figure that out. And guess what SWG, /this/ is a point based game.

Sorry if I am alittle salty, been playing since the Beta. This game is sooooo frustrating because it has sooooo much potential and is sooooo good in so many ways. And if your offened by my 'language', I guess you don't watch prime time TV.

Rant over.

Let's me say this right away: I'm not against this idea at all. Sure, the panacea consists in leading a group of players, but as I see it, to have a group reinforced by SL-specific pets would be nice.

Now by SL-specific pets, I mean with a level necessarily higher that the regular ones open to anyone.

Indeed, these faction pets should be more varied than the ones we have access to right now and should reflect some of the diversity of the actual combat professions (e.g. their abilities to target a specific HAM pool). And obviously it would be better if unaffiliated SLs get the possibility to select pets from other factions and not just rebels or imperials even if I’ve yet to find a SL which isn’t either rebel or imperial.

I would also enjoy being able to select specific NPC pets much like a CH selects his, that is to say trying to find the right mix of HAM/Armor/Resists/Specials, being able to get them uniforms, weapons and even armors. This could add some more flavors and quite some more versatility to the SL’s playstyle without preventing us to lead players at all.

And let’s face it, in PvP a CH is good for tanking but is far from being enough to make a team successful so why shouldn’t we get advanced faction pets too and obviously more than one at the same time?

Of course I wouldn’t want to see the SL profession dominating the game like CH was used to some time ago or when almost everyone was using a probot (not me mind you) before it got (justly) nerfed.

I don’t see this that conflicting with the idea we all have about wanting to lead players.

Anyway, these faction pets should reinforce a group not replace it much like the pets provided by a grouped CH.

All this goes along the revamp of the combat system with what was considered more than 2 years ago.
So I guess this also means that the GCW and SL correspondents should work together on this.

I hate to say this man, and you have a valid point that SL should get extra good troops/NPCs, but anyone should be able to get a humaniod follower.

Faction followers, and independant followers can be bought by anyone, or should be at least.

I say this because it is a leigitimat grip that anyone could pay say a Borvo Champion 5000 creds to be their bodyguard/thug, if they have positive Borvo faction points.

SL shouldn't get unique troops, they should just get more than the average person, and make them better. All other classes do not revolve around commanding troops and making them better. Just make us good at what we are suppost to do. Have our bonuses apply to all followers. Dang it, I want the 'those blasts are to accurate for sandpeople' troopers, not the guys running around the Deathstar.

I'm kind of 50/50 on this idea, but what would make a good compromise would be a craftiable item, useable in battle that calls in reinforcements. Make duration, number, and level of reinforcement experimental on the crafted item. When called they stay for a set time(or untill killed). Unlike pet make them so they only follow the squad leader and guard all group members. Sort of like a 'buff' for the group. Instead of buffing people you are buffing the groups ability to survive and deal out damage for awhile.

What about making one ability of a squad member such that:

at certain lvls on his tree he can add + 1 to the creature handler (or droid commander /DE ability to have more battle driods),

max number of "creatures"?

So at some lvl (1/2 way up a tree, or up various trees)he allows one more creature up to some max at master.

If they could make it so these added creatures would respond to SL commands in some way, all the better.

As for SL "creatures" they could make the max number the SL could have dependant on his lvl AND dependant on how many players are in the group. That way a SL still couldn't Solo, but could recieve troops that he could have control over.

Your kidding, right? 'That way a SL couldn't solo'.... Good God man. That is why we need followers in the first place, incase we have to solo. Incase you didn't realise this, but when we are alone, SL is totally, and I mean TOTALLY worthless. It doesn't give you one bonus, passive, or ability. I also haven't seen a Faction follower besides a AT ST that is worth a pinch of dirt alone.

I would suggest the total opposite, that the bigger the group, the less followers you can call to a minimum of one. That way, when your alone you can have more than one trooper.

Also, back when I was first being a SL, you could have up to 3 followers. I spent points on2 Storm Troopers (probally a total of 6-8) and a AT ST, and dang it, I am getting screwed out of nearly 1k of faction points for troopers I can no longer use. Can you trade back in your followers? Noooooooo. Can you actually see what your getting and spending points on (this includes furniture, bases, everything)? Noooooo. Am I dumb and want to destroy them? Noooooo. Should I pull my ST out or my AT ST? Duh.

So you see, there is this reason why I also want to see SL have more than one follower, but I can understand that the DEVs don't want to see 5 AT STs following 1 guy. Still isn't my fault that the DEVs made an AT ST as a freaking follower and didn't have the foresight to make classes of followers. They could have a vehicle class for followers... think Speeder bike Scouts/Rebs. Not my fault, but I am one of many being screwed for it.

I don't understand what the big aversion is to "soloing" with a Squad Leader. If you don't want faction pets, fine: don't use them. Want to be a purist Squad Leader? Fine, lead only real people 24/7, I couldn't care less what you do with your spare time in this game.

But DON'T force everybody in this profession to conform to someone's own view of what this profession should be all about. I don't think any Squad Leader should be required to use his pets, but they should be there in case he does.

I agree completely irott, the pet bonuses should be placed at the master end so as to prevent opportunists from grabbing one skill branch and becoming overpowered. I think it would be a good idea for our correspondent to make an official discussion thread about the issues of faction perks and present it to the devs sometime before our revamp.

Assuming, of course, the revamp is between now and the next millenium.

I dont think we should be able to comand 12 pets, but I do bleave we should be alowed max 4 faction pets to be used at the same time at the master level, and an AT-ST cap of 1, Dark trooper cap of 1. I think that would really be a positive thing over all.
