Thread: Official: Pets in Groups XP Thread
As long as pets (any pets) take up group spots they should count for SL XP (of course if the XP system is correct is another story). I dont like the fact that a SL can play with a pet and a droid and earn SL XP by himself basically... however I see the point in wanting to work with faction pets (stormtroopers for example) as a small team. So for the moment a SL with pets should earn SL XP.
I think when the class is fixed people will want to group with a SL and this will reduce the number of SL soloing with their pets. Personally I think it is also the responsibility of every player to not abuse every little quirk in the game to powerplay and get XP as fast as possible, it ruins your own gameplay experience. The XP and corresponding advances on the skill tree you get will mean less to a powerplayer than someone who tries to play the game in the spirit it is intended, for instance by roleplaying.
but my point was: As long as pets (any pets) take up group spots they should count for SL XP
pets should not count. "solo" your squad leader skillz. how can i work on my skills as a leader without actually having to lead anyone
in fact, pets and the CH tree should be removed from the game. it has nothing to do with star wars.
Pets should count in the Squad Leader XP formula if they are doing damage. (i.e. creatures attacking, droids attacking, etc. will count)
Fair is fair the squad leader has to direct the entire groups actions including pets. So why take that out?
The only difference between leading a squad of NPC pets and that of PCs is that the NPCs listen to you, and don't pull the Tusken King when you have a group of seven.![]()
I see nothing wrong with having pets count for SL xp. After all, isn't one of the supream goals of online gaming to make it so you can't tell an NPC from a PC?
Please, don't discriminate against NPCs. Make love not war, peace man, and soforth...
P.S.
Hehe, weeeeeeeeeee! *pokes j00 alll with the butt end of a T21*
I think you left a couple options out, As a New SL and an almost master CH, I think pets SHOULD count towards SL xp, they ARE part of the group. BUT "soloing" SL is dumb, so I think only pets that DON'T belong to the squad leader should count. I know it's slightly counterintuitive since you're not "leading" the pet, but you are, though it's master. and it prevents a few of the problems associated with creatures and SL. If you group witha Ch you get a bonus, if you only group with your own pets, you're still counted as alone, no SL xp. obviously the problem might come with several ch's but that's already there.
I feel getting xp with your creatures as a SL is acceptable.
I feel if you can put the creature in a group, and it takes up a group slot then a SL should get xp for it being in the group.
If not then there might be stupid little fights in the future over xp. Such as having a group of20 people who all want to play and all have creatures. The SL will want to have the most PC's possible for xp. The people will want their creatures in the group so that they can heal them or let the rest of the group keep an eye on them or whatever. That is just something small and stupid that players should not have to worry about. Hence creatures giving xp to SL's if in groups.
IMO No one should even be questioning that. It's not like you macro your creature to go off and hunt while the SL sits back and watches. If that was the case then maybe xp should be reconsidered. The creature is a part of the group and the SL gives it bonuses just like the PC's. We shouldn't discriminate the xp just because it's AI and one of the players orders it around.
Hell I say we let creatures get xp themselves and go up their own seperate little trees, but that's just my own wishful thinking. It's kind of cheeseball that after a week they are done growing. Get a creature wait a week bam all over nothing new. They get there special skills starting off such as spitting at their enemies and blinding them or whatever. Those skills should be earned as you use them and teach them with your CH's, but that's a whole different seperate topic.
"I Want pets to count for SL xp because it will be easier for me to solo my way through the SL skills. However, I believe that pets should not count for SL xp unless there are also PCs in the group, in which case the pet's damage should count towards the xp also. "
I almost choked on this. Someone has totally missed the point of Squad Leader.
I kept reading, and continued to bite my tongue.
I've read all the posts in this thread, here's my take.
We should get exp based on the total damage our group get's off the mob.
If I Solo a Bantha, I get more combat exp if I switch between Health, Action and Mind pools. The more damage I cause the mob, the more exp I get in general. This should be consistent with SL, except we should get exp based on total group damage.
A pet, or pets would allow us to do even more damage (quickly) than a group without pets.
However, since we are a SQUAD LEADER, and not a CREATURE HANDLER, I think we should get a penalty to SL exp for each pet caused damage point to the mob. (the numbers in the example below are totally made up...not actually sure what the formula is in reality...only that it sucks)
For instance we kill an 18k ham Dark Adept.
She takes 32k total ham damage before death.
If this gives us .25 points per ham damage, our SL points would equal 8k.
now, consider if the pets in our group did half that damage, 16 k, and pc's did
