Squad Leader Archive
Thread: A rational response from a disappointed Squad Leader.
Agreed Aden_Nak...subsquads are really a nice touch when added to useful skills. Without useful skills, subsquads are useless.

Honestly, if the commands we have now actually worked or were evidently effective, and they gave us something - anything - to force the whole group to target what I as a squad leaderam targeting, that would be enough for me. At least for a long time.
I dislike the whole puppetmaster command tree for the same reasons you guys have espoused, but the whole reason I took Squad Leader (besides wanting to lead groups, plan strategy, etc) is because I thought Volley Fire would force everyone to target andstart plugging what I was targeting at the time. I was, as we all know, wrong, and yet I still want that ability very badly.
In the hands of a capable squad leader this is not a dangerous command, but rather is inifitely useful - part of our job is to identify the most heinous threat to our teams and enable our teams to eliminate that threat as efficiently and quickly as possible. A force-targeting focus Volley Fire will do much to accomplish that.
The proposed changes to steady aim and rally are welcome, and I think I could even get behind the whole offensive / defensive idea. Inspire Greatness (or as I call it - Whack It Til You Crack It) will be an amazing thing if it ever gets implemented and is used correctly by an intelligent leader. Everything else is hogwash.
I took it upon myself to become a leader - all I ask now is the ability to lead during combat to a certain extent, not control my entire group in weird ways. I don't need just as many commands or skills as other classes, because, as someone above said, most of the actual literal leading I do myself.
Just let me make everyone focus on my current target and I promise I'll only use it when it should be used. KTHX
XOXO

or in a pvp situation, maybe an enemy TK artist flanks around and is ready to pound your prone rifleman-a quick all target is much better than /sysgroup "Shoot the TK artist behind you"
the fact that you can split the alltarget among the front line, def, or support squads makes it quite useful i would think. even if you can macro /sysgroup in a large battle it can be hard to quickly tab the correct target per a SL /sys command on a crowded screen.
I agree with your last point, but I think that it could be managed with group buffs that effect the whole squad.Which also takes care of the first point... if the rifleman is getting something more useful, like +50 melee def, he's got enough time to call for some help. Which is FAR superior IMHO than having me spend my attention micromanaging the map, players, enemies, etc. etc. etc. In a mass PvP situation, if I even knew the enemy in question was a TK artist before my rifleman got beaten senseless, I'd consider myself pretty on top of things.
On top of it, group buffs are easier to code! Can you imagine just how buggy these commands will be, considering how well the current, far simpler ones work?
I think the best way to do this is to make a /mark or some kind of macro that will allow a player to automatically attack the marked creature. This way the Sl does not have control over the player but is doing his job.
I have to say agree with what aden is saying. I feel bad that the Dev's are getting a cap session from the Sl's, but it is necessary. I don't think they read anything from the boards. I truly feel that we can be a good class with some work, but what i don't understand is why they aren't letting us help them. I don't think anyone that is still a squad leader is in this for glory or power. We are in this because of compassion for our class.
What i really want with mysl is to help my three melee guys in my group with an added attack bonus and my healers/entertainers with a defense bonus so they don't die as quick. The sl's main purpose is support. Sure there can be a group of 20 out there killing everything they see, but when people are in a group with me, i make it so they will have fun with me as their leader and get good exp at the same time. I don't just lead. I try to captivate and enthrall them with adventure. I try to go somewhere new every time, but eventually i will run out of places to go.
My point is this. The sl's are not crying for attention or power. We are crying to be useful. I want to make my group better. With the set of skills that may now be implemented, i will be like a mini star wars god, and that is not what i had in mind. Everyone in this forum yearns forthe thrill you get when youlead an effective group.Imagine a Sl who could increase defense or attack of a group. We might actually be wanted in a group!
Can this dream ever be achieved? We shall see.
(Side note: i don't understand the debuff. Does the debuff increase with people in the group or does it stay standard and only the buff increases with the group size. Do they think we are too powerful? Is the Bonus that much? These are the questions that aren't being answered. Heck, i don't even know if rally works. I use it and see no change.)

For my take on how to make the SubSquads actually useful.
