I think it's funny how a someone other than the correspondent brought this to the attention of the SL forum. I hope who ever does go to the sandbox is a VOCAL advocate for squad leaders because the silence on the SL forum is deafening. Full disclosure from correspondents regarding timetables or opportunities to test new things would be nice...
This is still in its infancy... and its every correspondents choice as to how they pick their team. As I posted above, I have already contacted a few players who I thought would be good candidates. Please do not doubt the system.
Also on a side note. There are a few members out there that seem to be a hot commodity. Much like a bunch of kids collecting baseball cards, we the correspondents are trading and fighting over certain "rare" players. heh.
I'm not saying that the people you initially asked are the wrong people. But for all the community knows, they could be horrible testers, lack vision for the profession, or simply are just too passive to voice their opinions. We all want great things for the SL profession but maybe their ideas don't meld with the rest of the community.
But this is what I'm talking about with disclosure. You waited for someone else to bring the sandbox up. I noticed it first with that post entitled "The Truth about our revamp time..." Your withholding of information is plain deception. If you think that the community will get pissed at what we hear, then it's our right to do so. I'd almost say that it's disrespectful to us that you are attempting to filter the information regarding SLs. Just give us the common courtesy to tell us information when you get it. And if you want to pick a certain team to go then tell us so people can voice their opinions on who's being sent. Chances are most people will just be congratulating the persons recommended but at least open it to debate in case it's needed.
Irott has given you all the information he can and has at the times when he has been able to. There is a lot that goes on that you don't see that ties our hands. The devs would tell us almost nothing if we went out and told everyone something they told us not to say.
As far as the sandbox goes, literally each corr was given his or her own discretion on who to pick. Some corrs posted it as a public process. Some corrs are asking people to just PM them. Some corrs just know the common posters on their boards and who would fit what they are looking for.
Now then...back to my search for qualified marksmen...

We all have expectations and if they are not met, then sometimes it can be bothersome. I know this is important to you, because it is important to me as well, and I want to move this forward as much as I can. But, you have to understand that, like you said Correspondents are the voice of the devs, that we all speak in different ways. Just because I chose a more low key approach doesnt mean that I wanted to keep this from the community.
By the time this thread came to life I already had 4 people picked (there are only 2 confimed so far, so keep posting if you would like to go.). My method was to pick the people I thought would be beneficial testers... not to make the community happy. This kinda makes me sad, cause I don't want to upset you guys. You are a great community.
I think you did the rigth thing to be honest rott. It is up to YOU who goes and you alone to pick the peopel that yout hink will be able to test out and give critical analysis, and a wide range of views on the proffession int he CB. You chose those oyu thougth would be best, first, befor ebringign it to the community.
Nothign wrong with wanting to see which of your first picks wanted to help out befor ementioning it ont he large to the community. and i think it was a better way than soem of the other corr's have done it. Probably would have doen it that way myself if I had gotten the blue name when Thulium dropped out and it was my place instead of yours. Just seems like picking out your top picks then going on the large is the more sensible approach.
Btw......is there any time-table as to whent he sandbox is going to be up and running? I doubt the devs woulda been this open about it if they didnt expect ti to be coming soon. Ive known abotu the SB for a few months now but it came out intot he open here a bit sooner than I expected......so again, do we ahve a time-table as to when any actual testing will start? Or is it all still in planning.

Akkori wrote:The CS have rules they must follow, and frankly, even for someone who rarely posts on this board, there is so little going on in this profession that nothing is a "scoop" that MUST be annunced with great fanfare. Now, if there were active developmet of the SL profession in progress, then I would expect more communication from a CS, but things are still (still!) coasting. Relax.
If this was a jab at me, I suggest you take a closer look at those with high post counts. It's not the quantity of posts, it's the message being delivered. We've all seen people with 1000+ post, probably most of which consist of sarcastic 1-liners. If you think that the number of posts one made denotes how valid their opinions are, then I can only imagine of what you think of the opinions of person that don't post at all but just read and absorb what is being written.
But you know, the sandbox may ultimately shape the development of the profession and that is why I think we should all know. And I'm sorry if I'd like to know who is shaping that change. I guess it's not a matter of public importance.
However, I can respect that the CS's have rules to be followed and must abide by them to keep their role. But just try to remember that along with the CSs role as being the voice of the people to the devs, CSs are also the voice of the devs back to the people. And if the latter isn't done, then proper communication is not being acheived.

Yeah all the correspondents were caught off guard with this thing as well... I think the first we heard about the 5 picks was in that smuggler forum post, which is when the public heard it as well.
We don't know the timetable as of yet. But I will keep everyone informed.
Be advised that this Sandbox will be a whole seperate client... so thats another 2 gigs or so of HD space.
heh well i alrdy replied to ya and said id do it i think i can manage another 2 gigs of HD space hehe
