What seems to bother people here, are the inability of people to work well in a group. (a)

So if you don't like these changes, don't be a squad leader. Or rather, try to find a group of people who will follow your lead. (b)

And remember - Lead by example. (c)

(a)
What the dedicated forum master squad leader fears are the dabblers who will ruin our profession abusing it.
See the currents problems with the buff (they stack while not grouped, only one can applied at the time so multiples squad leaders will change the setting time and time again, in large scale battles where different guidls work together there will be even less a chain of command)

(b)
I will have no problem with that, since I have earned my respect through my actions in the game, but we fear the elite powergames ruining our profession.

(c)
So far those around always have and still do since there isnt that much we could do before

Well if you were to relate us to fantasy style MMOs then yes we would be closely related to a bard. This is only because of some of the buffs we use. The different though between a bard and a squad leader is although we both have buffing abilities, the squad leader still has tools that are used for group communication and coordination. During testing we have to make it clear to the devs to follow this path in order to make SL not just a bard rip off.

Its those things that set us as leaders like one to a group..maybe 2 and having to be the GL that will set us apart from the bard. Without those things...we are nothig but what I have shown above...just without the music.

about the multiple leaders and stuff, as an ex soldier and an ex squad leader in real life, heres my take on it

ok, first, squad leader need not be group leader.......why, because group leader is an administratve postiton, they handle inviting and loot settings, in military terms, the group leader is like an officer, handles administrative tasks and thats about it, the squad leader does the real leading, so who is gl is irrelevant

2ndly, multiple SL's i have been in real combat with 2 squad leaders when i was in iraq, it made us a better group as we were able to effectivly break the squad into 2 smaller squads for better tactics. the only problme with 2 SL's is when both feel the need to be in charge, instead of sharing leadership. but an easy fix for it is for the group leader to kick the squad leader who joined the group last.

i see no problems with the design of the new SL professoin, i only see problems with the squad leader players adjusting to it

Now picture that with 8 Squad Leaders. Some of us accpet 2 if there are restrictions, and as you point out, having 2 worked....but 8 Squad Leaders all issuing commands? how well do you think that would have gone over?

Aye, Tiggs seems to copy lot of ideas from EQ bard's field obviously and try to convert SL to bard-like one cuz EQ is part of SOE as well..

I think its dumb for SL not required to be a leader to enjoy group benefits. That's bard's job... I play EQ1 for 6 years and I maxed out LEADERSHIP ALTERNATIVE ADVANCEMENT (LAA). Everyone can earn LAA no matter what classes they are in.. But they HAVE to be leader to earn LAA and have their LAA working on anyone in group equally.. I love LAA itself and I love to lead and run the groups and I love to start groups as well. I was hoping that SL concept would be similiar to LAA. It also helps to separate idiots from serious leaders. Any idiots can play MSL if they don't need to lead groups at all and can damage SL reputation. If they require SL to lead then the population of MSL would stay low but tools will become more useful in hands of dedicated MSLs who lead groups all the time..

If Tiggs insists to keep SL not required to lead groups and buff entire group all the time then I agree that SL title must be changed.. It's very misleading title for new players if all it does is to buff groups and doesn't even lead groups.. It surely is NOT hard to change title to proper one based on revamped SL layout..

The Dream Team

  • Group Leader (Squadleader/carbineer)

  • Second in Command (Squadleader/carbineer)

  • Medic (Combat Medic/carbineer)

  • Sniper (Rifleman/Ranger)

  • Soldier (Carbineer)

  • Soldier (Carbineer)

  • Soldier (Carbineer)

All should at least be Novice Medics, to be able to heal one another in times of need.

dream team? you have 4 templates in an 8 man group. 6 proffesions represented out of what32 that could be represented? there is no doctor in this group? no melee? 6 guys are carrying the same weapon for godsakes.

the perfect design for squadleader is already in place. if it remains the same all of the stacking/squadbot problems will not be a problem anymore. there is a good reason that the squadleader has had to be the group leader and 1 per groupthis entire time. because it will not work otherwise.

i would like this patch to work the first time and not get changed. the squadleaders are giving everyone an educated warning about these changes. we understand how our current abilities work and can use that as a point of reference when predicting the future if this patch goes live. it would serve all well to hear our warning.
