Thread: Stop the CU sourpuss act. Focus on our Revamp
Forgetting this one from long ago:
Man Down! Using this command a squad leader can clear the incap timer of a friendly and have 1/4 health restored, enough time to get them away from the front lines. This comes at a serious cost to the action and mind of the SL, I would say around the same as how retreat is now. This was also known as On Your Feet.
- Blackferne, great idea for a thread. I hope you can create some sort of checklist that is useful to the devs (and that they notice it). I just have a few comments on your skill list:
- Group sizes probably won't be increased. Maybe the platoon idea has more of a chance for implementation.
- I like your Offensive Tactics skills, especially /flank. Skills should focus on group bonuses (accuracy, speed, movement, etc) and based on certain situations (location, moving/standing, proximity, etc).
- Consider Maridus' "Take Point" skill over a fake /decoy.
- I like the /motivate idea to clear rooting.
- Wow! Sound with the /sys message. Why didn't I think of that?
- I have a feeling that other players won't like the formation skills, even if they can break formation on their own. (Of course, I like it though.)
- I like the squad naming idea, although some people might not like being called whatever the SL wants. Maybe the names should be static and picked from a list.
- LOL! Artillery Barrage? Nice idea but probably too radical of a change. I'm sure that skill would get other profs' attention.
- I think we all agree that the platoon idea is great.
- Call Target
When in a group in Guild Wars, anyone can Ctrl-Double Click on an enemy. This puts a little box next to the person's name with the letter "T" in it. Any other group member can hit the letter "T" to target the enemy that was called.
In SWG this could be a SL only command with the /volleyfire skill. This could be implemented now if the /volleyfire system message said "/assist the squad leader to switch targets". Of course, we hope for a more obvious method as posted by many other people. - Interactive Map
Guild Wars has a compass map similar to the one in SWG (the little round one with the terrain and "con" information). In Guild Wars anyone in a group can ping or draw on the map. If someone clicks once on the map they will mark the location and send out circular waves like a sonar signal. It's useful to say, "I am here." or "Meet me there." Also anyone can draw on the map with their cursor. The drawing fades away after about 5sec. It's excellent for telling group members which way to go. (I feel more like a SL in GW than in SWG sometimes.)
In SWG this could be used on the compass map as well but only give the ability to draw or ping to the squad leader. This could be a new skill at novice SL or maybe break it up into 2 skills (ping and draw) to be earned on the Mobility tree. The interactive map might require a big interface change but here's to wishful thinking...
I am a strong believer in each tree should represent a crucial element of leadership.
Mobility/position: A good unit must be mobile and understand the importance of its location.
Defensive tactics: I want my group to be able to say, "This part of the universe is mine. If you want it, you'll have to take it from my dead corpse"
Offensive tactics: I want my group to beable to be a swat team, charging into a base or an area and securing it.
Strategy: A general leadership line that allows me to build morale, clear debuffs and apply some buffs.
I agree having it set up kind of like this would be really cool. One thing I do not want to see is an entire tree made for forts, but I think that probably is a discussion of the past now...

Keep in mind "defensive tactics" can mean lots of things. Forts are just one element of a possibly larger scope. Example in ancient greece their armies would be phalanxes and they were able to withstand normal armies barages by employing a defensive posture. If arrows were coming they'd wall themselves in. If Calvary was charging they'd put up shields and have their 20ft pikes down waiting for the assault.
I was thinking last night... what if they made SL a crossover profession between ground and space. Not 100% because you can't make some one "more accurate" in a twitch game. But like what is /volleyfire would paint the target in space the same way it does on the ground. And what if we could actual call formations (anyone who is on follow on you will fall into a wedge formation, or an intercepting V formation etc).
Just a thought.
