Thread: Which SINGLE fix or addition can make Squad Leader Worthwhile?

If passive buffs are working then perhaps a message to the grouped player when they are responsible for damage avoidance.
Instead of 'a Tusken Raider misses' how about 'Squad leader yells take cover and a Tusken Raider misses'
At least people might come to appreciate the bonus if its tangible.

I prefer to clone once a day. Its far better than shaving and avoids the rash.

Psh, give us an additional humanoid faction pet for every box in the Squad Leader tree.

That single fix would make me wanna play an SL again.

Otherwise? The "single" fix would need to be a complete rework of the class. Sure as heck no single ability that has no direct affect on the game will interest me. That kind of thing, like /sysgroup,is a nice side-effect for a profession that otherwise works, not a reason to BE that profession.

i also belive there is no single fix, unless you call a complete revamp a single fix....

if the DEVs are serious about fixing us soon they should start by fixing all of our skills and making our skill mods have a noticable efect on our groups, basicly make SL what it should have been before the game was released.

but if i had to pick only one change i would like to see, beside the complete and total revamp of this profession, it would have to be Fortifcations

also i like the /aimfor idea, a leader should either have knoledge of an enemies weakness or would be able to spot a weakness while observing an enemy durring battle

How do you improve the entire game, and one of the more useless professions at the same time? Well this is a start: Help Support the http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=squad_leader&message.id=10609>Fortification Proposal

I don't believe in a one touch fix either but...

There was a thread of proposed changes at one point which suggested that SL's might be able to assign roles to team members. You could designate someone as a defender for increased defense mods but reduced attack mods, vice versa for an attacker designation. A point man designation might give increased speed and radar range. A system like this could be very potent without straying from the philosophy of the profession assuming the mods weren't as negligible as the current passives.

I didn't want to use this thread for "new" ideas, but I'm putting this here before I forget:

Another great addition would be an ability to "custom buff" the group depending on the situation. Although this primarily comes from choosing the right assortment of people for your group, this type of thing would remain useful because we often find ourselves going out with the same or similar "well-rounded" group, but an important aspect of a good leader is that he or she is able to take a crew of square pegs and make it fit into the appropriate hole. I see this implemented as a series of abilities (perhaps a whole tree: Leadership, most likely) that add a GROUP of complementary buffs that could have certain drawbacks. For example, setting the group for ranged attack would improve range modifiers but come at a melee defense penalty, alternately a short range group would have static buffs that improve damage dealt and kick mobility up a notch but might decrease ranged defense effectiveness. Forming into a 'travelling party' would give everyone the same terrain negotiation so no one gets left behind, but the fastest movers might be slowed a bit. This system could also incorporate a "/smoke'emifyougot'em" command to boost healing and buff mods.

Bottom line is we definately need a revamp and I personally think the revamp should give squad leaders a whole MESS of commands and abilities. With the current system, we only have 6 ineffective commands and a couple inneffective passives. A Squad Leader should have a boatload of modifiers and commands at their disposal. Not so that we can be people puppeteers or yet another pet handler, but the ability to customize a group's stats to fit the situation and a method of putting actual Tactics, Strategy, and Leadership into the game.

...but the original topic is if we can only have one new ability or fix, what do you want? My vote remains for an enhanced tactical maneuver like /aimfor because although the strategy, leadership and mobility trees are also very lacking...Tactics is basically nonexistant and IMHO is the weakest of our weak abilities that should be the strongest.

Why don't we make a list of all the things we'd like to see done, meaning single things for them to fix, such as reducing the failure rate of our commands to 15%, lowering HAM costs for using them by %75, building fortifications, adding waypoint management to see others waypoints, painting a target for combat, up the passives to be more noticable like 5 more points each box, fir /rally so you're not automatically assumed to be in combat, etc., etc..

Not general things like "everythings broken, we need acompleterevamp", cause that's not going to get them started on fixing us. They apparently have no idea where to start, or what to do to fix us, so with us being leaders, we need to tell them exactly what to do. Yes we do need a complete revamp, so lets get them started, 5 things at a time.

Once we get the list, say by Monday at 6PM Central Time, we'll vote for the top 5 by Wednesday 6PM Mountain time. Figure out what the general consensus for the top 5 is and give it to TH.

Then maybe they'll actually fix it the way we want it.

Excuse a moment of cynicism, but I'm afraid that if we got a revamp that it might go the way that SLXP went and having us crying for the old system "even a broken system is better than this". I'm afraid this will happen if we don't get a very well reasoned and debated revamp. The squad leader development track record does not point to this, but if it's ever gonna happen, maybe we can get a bone thrown to us while we wait for the real fix to get built...that's the purpose of this thread: If the dev's just tossus just onebone, what flavor do you want?

I fully support the Squad Leader Fortifications idea but if it's going to be worth having it will take some time. Truth be told, a Fortification isn't going to be much besides a fewstat buffs and some nifty art. I'd still love to see it, but I'm willing to wait for it.

Enhanced waypoint management is also a VERY good idea. In my personal voting, I'd place it just behind an uberized attack command only because a lot of waypoint management can handled by a smart player with the current system and I'd rather have something entirely new and different. However, what kind of good Squad Leader goes into the field without a map and ALL of the groups waypoints?? I can just see Admiral Ackbar: "Great job, everyone! We've destroyed this wave of fighters! ....now, um...who's got that newDeath Star waypoint??"

I agree with that statment, but are the HAM costs of Raly really worth it?
