It's pretty annoying that people think that and to a point, I can see why many wouldn't want to play SL. Damaged and healing compared to a say MRifleman/MBH/CM 4000 but a lot of people sell SL short. They say that the 15% damage increase from Volley Fire isn't useful and they'd rather fill our slot with a Jedi. Now a lot of people are seeing that we don't suck.

I know it may sound like I'm saying that Squad Leader is better than any other profession, but I'm not. We SL's currently have a lot of stuff that's not working properly and we as anyone will admit is the least looked at profession, but even for those reasons I have enjoyed every minute of SL and everytime I say I may leave the profession, I can never find one that I like as much as I love SL.

Well, that's my 2 cents, Grati, you're the one who brought this post on, but I will say welcome to the profession.

For all those who are new to the profession, the veterans here and even some of the new players to the profession have tried to keep this board a sort of family. Yes, the board has gotten heated and I'm talking even before pre-publish 24 info came into being. Please keep it family. That's the only thing that this newbie/vet requests of you all. Keep it friendly keep it fun and help each other out. I don't want to see this cool profession going the way of BH vs Jedi. We're better than that and I know it.

I for one am happy to see our numbers increasing. Even though we are getting a revamp we still will be pretty small in numbers compared to the other professions. I see ranger getting more players joining their ranks because they have skills that will really help out say a commando or a bh in the hunt against jedi.

I do find it funny that we were known as the worst profession in the game for the longest time but those ppl who truely thought that we couldn't do anything were ignorant since a group lead by an SL who truely knows his/her profession will mop the floor with the other group.

and some have the definate feel of an SL alt-bot

And that more than anything else has me worried about nerfs down the road, just happy I've not seen any so far on Valcyn. *crosses fingers*

However, I am more than happy to see more MSL's around even if a few of them are rebs. Just hope they're ready to be on the receiving end of a volleys.

I had a switch last night. A guildmate called me out to Dantooine as his hunting group was falling apart and I was getting annoyed at a quest. I get out there, they give me lead, we refill the group and head out to the nearest lair. As we get to the lair, one of the guys asked "Hey Mardius, can you make me leader so I can buff the group with my SL abilities?" Thats a new one! Seeing as he said this a split second before I hit my Volley Fire button, my response was a pretty system message and a glowing red orb. A second latter he noticed the MSL tag over my head. I believe by the end of the night he was up to 4444, that's the second SL I've gotten to train in about 2 weeks.

umm too many people are picking up SL for the buffbot featurre, and it makes me sad to see this.... i am a tactical person and personally picked up squad leader for the RPing feel of it, but i love the abiliteis too, and when i found out about the revamp, i almost wet myself...

I had trained a couple several months ago when things were pretty hot in the GCW department, just before the CU hit and everyone went to play with that for a while. But I haven't seen them around anymore. :-( No new ones recently.

Alien, I have had three toons in SWG for approx a year and a half, one alt has been a smuggler from day one, through thick and thin I kept him a smuggler, from when slcining was a gamble to use, to when slicing was worthless, to when slicing actually meant something to the game. I never dropped it. So, I know how it is to have a worthless profession.

I am the guild leader of WOOK on scylla, I love being the guild leader, and I am a leader at heart also. I never picked up squad leader before because I have alway's had one or two SL's in my guild at any time. Over the past few months it seemed that we lost all our SL's. I have been wanting to pick it up for a while with an alt just to have it and to go on the guild hunts and continue to be the leader. Now I have it, love it, and can't wait for it to get better also.

No worries about me not keeping it a family. My guild, friends on SWG are considered family to me. I will onlybring constructive feedback and will learn from everyone on the new abilities and difficulties that are associated with SL.

You can't stop new guys from picking up Squad Leader, its going to happen, and some will try to exploit our new abilities which will eventually lead to ........dare I say it.........(insert that soft baseball like game that kids play)

So, thanks for the welcome and if anyone wants to check out scylla, give me a call.

WOOKS huh? Hm....I think I may know you partially then. Heh. I was/am on Chilastra as well, you don't happen to know a SkinnyMcgee do ya?

I know that people will be picking up this profession a lot now that Pub-24 is coming about.

1) I'm concerned that there could be squabbling in this board like there is in BH and Jedi.
2) I don't want this board to devolve into anything like the Galaxy Boards.
3) I'd rather see this board develop more reason than a lot of the other boards.

More for the profession than the board:
4) I would rather **edit** it in the bud before any nerfing of the profession happens.

Those are just three of my, hopes and wishes. I didn't mean to make it come off that I didn't want you here, I'm just a little territorial. I have been playing SL since well, I started on SL when I started playing the game in August '04, and didn't know of it's...broken state until I came here after the CU and around the time I was halfway up SL, by then, I loved the profession. Sure, it's broken atm, but what SL is now is what I like about it. I didn't give a damn what anyone said about the profession. And I've had people tell me that it's worthless, there's nothing good about SL and it would never get fixed. But then again, that was coming for a guy who only plays this game to be Jedi...not to have fun. I just don't like the fact that some people come here and tell me how SL is or how SL should be run. I know how the SL is. I like the way it currently is now for the most part.

I'm not looking forward to being called into groups to be their fluffer (yes, the dirty version and if anyone doesn't know what it is, don't ask) because I'm going to turn them down, I have to much left to accomplish to join a group of dumb ass Jedi-wannabes to join in a hunting group when I'd rather be doing Avatar or DWB and finish up some Kash quests and with ToOW coming soon, I'll have more to do.

Anyways, sure, be silly here (I think everyone knows that I am. ), but remember, we're better than a lot of squabbling professions. The one thing I will say, just because you partially brought it up, despite how broken we are, we haven't had the squabbling that I've seen among smugglers about smuggling and the like. I can agree with the problems of smugglers since I have a toon on Radiant that's at novice and I've had him since CU, but I'm usually on Kette. I've seen some smuggler's cry and whine and complain about the state of the profession. I have yet to hear any of us SL's do that. We here are constructive and thoughtful and pose questions rather than whining about how broken/borked we are currently.

Anyways, welcome aboard.
/salute
